House of Cards - A New Fan Seeks Same for Discussion

Hi all.....

I had been prompted by my mom and my son both to watch House of Cards...until recently I had not done it.
Now - I am totally intrigued. Just this minute starting the Finale of Season One.

Anyone else interested in talking about the show?? The writing, script, music, acting, all of it. Extraordinary drama, truly.

I haven't watched the U.S version, but the Original U.K production was fantastic.

My Dad and Son have watched all episodes and haven't stopped raving about them, but then Kevin Spacey is such a great actor, you just know it would be.

I've only gotten through part of the second season, but it is worth a try for everyone.

I loved the commercial recently, FU 2016.

I'm tellin' ya - he is incredible....and so is Robin Wright. She was "The Princess Bride", you know, and she was also "Jenny" in Forrest Gump......

I wrote a screenplay years ago that in my mind's eye had her as the protagonist/main character.....

She is amazing in this show, just the way she holds her eyes, and is so "composed" all the time - and then finally she lets her real feelings come to the surface.....it is incredible acting. FANTASTIC writing.

awesome stuff. Sometimes my American friends say they have trouble 'understanding' the dialect, and I always remind them that turning on the captions is the best idea - whether one can understand and hear it or not - it adds that sort of "literature" flavor, you know? Especially with, for example, background noise or nearby dialogue or spoken remarks.

It's like the perfect hybrid of film and literature.....a grownup's illustrated version.

Kevin Spacey is amazing in this series. Seasons 1 and 2 are the best imo.

The sex, murders, and backroom deals taper off after season 2.

Edit - My favorite part about the series is Kevin Spacey breaking the 4th wall.

I think Robin Wright's performance matches his to the Nth degree - they are both fantastic. FANTASTIC.

And like I said - the music, the sets, it's just mesmerizing.....great "tv". (Does a Netflix production count as TV? O_o ??)

PLUS!! With the ongoing election fracas it seems even more appropriate to be watching.....

maybe House of Cards is telling us what's actually happening?
I will say that I notice trends in tv programming (as well as Netflix, for that matter) that seem very ironical to be showing at the same time as some disruptive real-life event.

This is an excellent series. I liked the first 3 seasons better than the last but am quite hooked. The characters are so despicable, yet you can't help yourself to see what they do next! Extremely well written and the opening scene design and music is awesome too!

Who is your favorite main character? I have to say Claire is mine.

We only recently started it, finished it in a weekend.
Actually still have a couple of episodes from the last season to see !

I'm not sure who my fave character is! Probably Frank, Claire intrigued me but she got on my nerves in the last season- lol

Back at it this afternoon/evening. There were several relevant points I wanted to share, but they have now escaped my mind....

except that the theme music is really good - and that made me wonder about a free shareware thing that could turn my keyboard (typewriter) into a keyboard (piano)....
