Lasers in the cockpit

Anyone have any thoughts on the lasers in the cockpits? at the range they are describing it happening it has to be a high quality laser, i have one that cost a good bit, but ofer a few hundered yards, it gets diffused, so it sounds to me like most of them are targeting lasers or similar. If they are, why not just launch whatever they are aiming with, and get it done? (hope they never do this though) I mean, i cant see someone standing in their back yard with a Stinger missile on their shoulder, annd no one noticing, and them not having th ecourage to shoot, unless all the have is a good laser and they are terrorising us just by putting bad thought in our heads like they have with it...

Any thought or theories on this?
