There was no vote.

Back in August, Colorado changed the process by which it assigns its state delegates. It was sort of like a back room caucus of the party. All the candidates had to send representatives to court the delegates. Cruz has been making a good game of this and wooing delegates left and right for a potential second ballot vote. Trump's campaign seems largely oblivious.

So when Colorado delegates were apportioned, they all went Cruz because this has been the Cruz ground game. Man is playing chess.

When the convention comes, assigned delegates are bound for one vote. If Trump does not have enough to win outright, then there is hockey for the second ballot. Cruz's camp has been busy whining and dining the delegates and working the convention delegate apparatus all over to try to make the up the necessary total for a second ballot win. None of Trump's first ballot delegates are bound after that first vote as are none of Cruz's. Smart candidates will be working the margins and trying to persuade delegates to jump camp for the second ballot and maybe third.

If no one can win in the second ballot, then they vote again ... this is when the GOPe figures they can screw over both Trump and Cruz with a Ryan or Romney pick.

Word is that the Trump campaing is more or less ignoring the delegates process and poorly organized. If Trump does not win the delegate count outright, then Trump supporters better be prepared to see him not get the nomination. Trump may be a smart business, but he is either poorly informed about the convention process or chooses to remain ignorant of it. If the latter, then I have to wonder how serious he actually is about getting elected. And if he's not serious about getting elected, then he seems to be more of the agent provocateur after all.

It's being played that way in the press and by Trump, and I do think the party made a mistake doing it this way overall. But to say that Trump was robbed simply because there was no primary vote of the state's voters and that is the sole reason Trump got no delegates is false. Trump's campaign was, as far as I know, as free to engage in the same tactics to secure delegates as any of the other campaigns.

All of the candidates's campaigns have known about this change in how the party was going to conduct their delegate allocation since August. No one has thrown a fuss about it until it went against Trump. If the Trump campaign does not have a strong delegate game, then that is on their organization, not the fault of the party.

Yeah a lot of people will not like seeing anyone other than Trump getting the nomination if he has the most delegates of the three GOP candidates.

Maybe then the Republican voters will realize that the RNC screwed them.

That's just it. He had the largest complete voting block, but collectively, he did not have the most votes. The other candidates consistently had more collectively.

So, basically Donald is banking on winning outright and then banking on being able to demagogue to get his way if he doesn't have the number of delegates needed. That's not how it goes ... unless you want your followers to behave like the Sandernistas and BLM have been and go marching around screaming "This is what Democracy looks like!" Hmmmm, where have we seen that before? That isn't exactly the process as it was envisioned either.

Basically, this is a two-tier game: the primary votes and the delegate game. He's been playing on one tier and ignoring the other, and it may come back to bite him in the end. And if he doesn't start playing catch up and instead throws a tantrum, we may all suffer for it.

There have been no rules changes aside from Colorado since this began and everyone has been operating like this.

It isn't like there has been a pool of delegates he's been locked out of before the primaries even began like Bernie has been climbing against.
