Probably a copper infused meteorite.

I don't think that's a aircraft.

There have been a lot of these meteor sightings in the last months.

Wrote about my sighting over Denmark in October HERE, and a few months ago we had one more over Denmark HERE where the remains was found in a driveway weighing a 50 gram, and one over Scotland in the start of this month.

If they are not uncommon, why did social media light up with it? Do people just not look up ?

I have no idea, maybe just that we have so many cameras these days there's a greater chance of them getting caught on film.

It's more of a story with a video, as opposed to "someone says they saw a meteorite" which is somewhat lacking in itself.

sometimes a meteor is just a meteor.

The trail of individual glowing 'bits' visible in the observatory video would suggest this is just a meteor breaking up in the atmosphere.

Guy in India was reportedly killed last month from a meteor strike IIRC.

NASA disagrees however:

Unfortunately, by the looks of it what was captured on video and reported was just a common bolide meteorite. They happen more often than people think.

Then why are they suddenly becoming mainstream "newsworthy" if they happen so often ?

That's what puzzles me

I saw a bright green, like almost neon, meteor-ish thing around September. Southeast US. Not sure what exactly it was, but it was unlike anything I had seen before or since.
