More hack tips for google: Security/Web cams

Topic started on 9-1-2005 @ 08:13 AM by AceOfBase

www.securityfocus.com...
Blogs and message forums buzzed this week with the discovery that a pair of simple Google searches permits access to well over 1,000 unprotected surveillance cameras around the world -- apparently without their owners' knowledge.

These searches really do turn up some neat stuff.

Try out the searches here:

inurl:"view/index.shtml"
inurl:"ViewerFrame?Mode="

fficial&start=120&sa= N" target="_blank" class="postlink">Google - inurl:"ViewerFrame?Mode="

fficial" target="_blank" class="postlink">Google - inurl:"view/index.shtml"

That last search turns up some really good cameras.
Here's a .gov.uk camera that is really smooth:
cam1.east-ayrshire.gov.uk...

If you have a webcam on your system, you may want to password protect it.

EDIT: here's one from Finland:
blindedby.it.helsinki.fi...
Here's another from a Date Center:
195.74.96.252...

You'd think IT guys would put a password on their cam.

It says in the article: " apparently without their owners' knowledge."
I think people just plug these cameras into their networkd or on their PC for their own use and don't realize that Google is going to index them so anyone can do a search for them.

Some of these cameras are pointing outside, some in offices and some look like classroms.

I don't these were all made to be public.

The Axis cameras have a network jack in them so you can just plug it into a hub or switch and access it remotely.
I think some people just plugged them in and left it at that. Others I accessed were password protected.

Some of the cameras that can be accessed through Google searches are personal webcams attached to people's home PCs.

this is truly entertaining, must be one of the most fun and interactive posts i have ever been part of.

Can you crackmus into some government installations or onto a personal webcam for an example???

If you have the powers, may as well abuse it ;-)

Cheers
