From many angles the Tu-144 did look spectacular, somehow a little more futuristic than Concorde IMHO, and the above pic is one of them

That's because of the engines.. look at the long thin boxes vs. concorde's which are shorter. The only problem I find with the tu-144 (cosmetically) is when it has the canards out.. that looks ugly IMHO.

I completely agree, I was going to find a pic of it with the canards out to prove just that point but didn't bother in the end. I think its good looks also have something to do with the engines being closer to the centrline

and the Tu-224, which if provided funding, will fly in 2010-2015.



PS: when i design any supersonic transport myself, i end up with plane almost exactly like Tu-144/224
maybe there is something special about Concorde/Tu-144/Tu-224 designs



Here is Concorde from about the same angle:

Tu-144 engines are almost 2 times longer (!)
