In a regulatory filing with the stock exchange, Xi’an Aircraft International Corporation said chief designer Tang Changhong and chief engineer He Shengqiang have both tendered their job resignation letters on Nov. 16.

This smacks of a scandal somehow. The question is whether the scandal pertains to the aircraft itself - ie not working as planned or suffering some sort of failures - or if they were caught with their hands in the till, so to speak. Or something along those lines.

As an aside, I really wish we had a suffix like we did with the Russians (-ski) to describe the Chinese copies or parallels of American aircraft. I've heard the y-20 described as a c-17 copy, but you can't call it the c-17ski like back in the days if it had been a Soviet copy...

This is actually common place in communist China. It probably had nothing to do with the aircraft itself and more to do with which politburo member's pocket they were in.
There is currently a power struggle in the communist party between the current prez. and other sitting members.
