Actually Amuk the patriot act was orgianlly titled the ant-terrorism omnibus act, which was proposed and wrtten by democratic lawmakers during Clintons term, and blocked by republicans. They simply dusted it off and renamed it the patriot act.

So the same law that was evil under the Democrats is good under the Republicans? Will it become evil again when the Democrats come back into power?

Does it matter who's chains you wear? Does slavery under the Republicans become a good thing as long as the nasty old Democrats aren't in power?

I don't give a crap if the person trying to turn my homeland into a police state is a Republican, Democrat, Communist, Nazi, or a freaking Whig. If the Libertarians start agreeing with it I will dump them too.

What amazes me is how many intelligent people are being taken in by this dog and pony show.

Most Libertarians are former Republicans, and are used to bashing liberals. Most claiming to be Libertarian also go back to the Republican party fairly quickly when they realize that if the party sees it's goals reached, it will not be any time soon.

That is why they are more of the "enemy" then the Democrats. They siphon off strength from the true freedom party. We draw few members from the Democrats ranks and they don't dilute our goals or steal our members with false claims. The struggle for the "right" will ultimately be IMO between the Libertarians/Constitutionalists and the Republicans and we will have to win THAT battle FIRST before we can win the war.

I do agree with you on this point about "big government Republicans." I don’t see a huge difference in Republicans and Democrats, to tell the truth. It is the difference between speeding toward socialism at 100mph or 75mph, the end result will be the same.

Exactly. Except I would say the Republican party seems to be mutating into some kind of Socialist/Fascist party that in a lot of ways scares me more than the Democrats.

Amuk I personally dont find the patriot act all that sinister. However I am sick of those who do atrributing it to the republcans incorrectly.

There is more fault to be found with those who passed it than those who wrote it IMO.

I once suggested (jokingly) to my wife that we put my entire savings on one hand of blackjack. She rightly told me I was out of my mind. Now, if she had done it, who would be at fault for loosing our money? Me for suggesting it or her for actually doing it? Hard to say either 100%, but the one who holds up the chips takes the blame.

So a Republican President, Senate and House passes the bill and its Clinton's fault?
Just when in history does everything STOP being Clintons fault and the Republican party take responsabilty for its actions? It is susposed to be the Party of personal responsability but no matter what goes wrong they chant "Clintons fault".

How much longer do they think they can blame all the ills on someone that not even in office?
