KUALA LUMPUR: The pending Trans-Pacific Partnership Trade Agreement (TPPA) has been sidetracked by a hitherto unknown reality on the ground; Malaysia, given its location along the Straits of Malacca, is the regional lynchpin in the thinking of the Obama Administration.

There are an estimated four million foreign workers in Malaysia, with the US State Department’s 2013 Trafficking in Persons Report saying that half of them are undocumented.
