I'm surprised no one has commented on this yet. Is this an attempt to calm th N.koreans down or to warn the S. Koreans that we will leave if they really don't want us there. Interesting.

Are they pulling back only to regroup or to tone down the issue???

Is this move a move towards war or peace???

Anyone have any idea???

Thanks

I'm 50% sure that it means an attack is coming, they're settling back into a good defensive posture after all... N Korea has over 1 million soldiers, and probably around a quarter sitting a couple hundred meters behind the DMZ

The tension is so thick there, that within minutes thousands of Koreans will die as soon the war starts.

I hear that North Korean missles could destroy most of Seoul. That city has some 10 million people. That is very scary considering that it is in range of those missiles and only 30 miles from the North Korea defense line.

This war is just bound to happen so as long as Jong is deemed Mister Bad Guy by the the US, Japan, and all the others.

I think that this situation is just another Vietnam. It is a war no one wants, but no one is willing to ignore.

Too bad that this stuff makes for good money and good policy drives for power and acclaim. Cause the men who derserve that acclaim don't get it. They get killed by the thousands while the world leaders look on and live on.

It takes desire for peace for any war to be avoided. There is no desire for peace right now. Not in Korea.

One day, this will end, but for now it is just beginning.

www.matrixintelligenceagency.com...

these folks are a think tank that often work for the military as well as others
a couple of months ago they advised that the north had placed nuclear weapons in a massive tunnel system on their side of the DMZ
the norths plan[?] was to attack the american forces and then as the americans reacted the north would retreat. then when the americans advanced to the point of the buried nukes, detonation. north korea wins the land war and blames the U.S. for a pre-emptive strike, after all we have done it twice in the last two years, pre-emptive that is
perhaps the military took the matrix seriously and withdrew 75 miles to have some fighting room and not fall into the trap
makes sense to me
if the shoe fits, wear it

That is not too far fetched.

Hopefully our Military isn't that stupid.

I would expect a huge air campaign by our Military rather than the ground invasion. What do you think???

contrare
the north has large cannon on rails burried in the groud designed to come out shoot and go back in the hole, they are everywhere and these can reach Seoul
thier air force is sophisticated and in dog fights could manuver tighter than ours, their tanks are designed better for the hilly terrain, they make and export all their own weapons, and have 1.17 million hungry soldiers [hunger being a motivator]

far, far different than Vietnam

I hope we have moved our troops back so we can get them safely out of there in a hurry
to HELL with Korea, the south hasn't been very nice to us lately anyway

I spent a little time up near the DMZ. The North has hundreds if not thousands of artillary pieces sitting near the border. Seol is very near the boarder. No doubt that if the north launched an attack the city would be devestated.

if the information is accurate its probably more a good tactical move, with most of our forces tied up on the DMZ they would all be taken out immediatly, pulling them back gives us more room to manuever and to attack and defend where needed.

The US Airforce is far more advanced. The most advanced aricraft they'd incorporate into an air war would most likely be a Mig 29. Even the most advanced [former] Soviet fighters do not stack up to what is in the US arsenal today.

While it wouldn't be a cake walk I think the US could gain control of the skies pretty quickly. The real threat to US fighters/bombers will come from the ground in the form of AAA and SAMs.

they got kamikazi mig-21 aircraft [which got a higher climb rate then you're f16/f15 ...] and some su-27.
sa-6 medium range sams some ww2 anti-aircraft arti sa-3s etc..

they will sneak up their small subs near you're carriers
and BOOM.

You obviously have very little knowledge of US Naval power and capabilities. All carriers are escorted by AT LEAST 1 fast attack sub and I see no contest beween one of ours and a diesel underwater tugboat.

There would have to be quite a few at once. Not to mention the standoff distance that we keep carriers at.
Look at Afghanistan for an example...
They would need Anti-ship missiles with a 300-400 mile range, and a LOT of them at that.

There are a number of reasons why they could be doing this.

1/They are moving outside of artillary range. The USA is about to make a pre-emptive strike on NK's Nuclear power plants.

2/The US is pulling back to give the SK's a taste of what it would be like if they were on their own.(so do things our way or else)

3/The US has had enough and they have decided to leave the SK's to deal with on their own neighbours rather than stay with their hands tied.

4/It increases pressure on NK and drives them to the negotiating table.

That's the only 4 I can think of.There may be more.
Whatever it is expect increased tensions in the region.

Why do they call it the Demilitarised zone when in reality it is one of the most heavily militarized places on earth?

What? This?

Yeah, that's an advancned fighter... For Vietnam. Like I said, the real threat to US airpower will be from the ground. But then again with fighters and bombers like the F-22, F-117, and B-2 even AAA/SAMs aren't that big of a threat. After the stealth equiped planes take out the main AAA/SAM sites it then opens the flood gate for everything else that flies in the US aresenal.

No war can be won without control of the skies.
