I recieved an e-mail this morning in my Hotmail account!

it was from: RCMAC143@HOTMAIL

had an attachment with it, thankfully my Anti-virus protection was there.

its called: W32.Sobig.C@mm ?

never heard of that one, must be new

the file attached to it had the virus, which was called Movie.pif

anyway thought you lot might like to know?

Yep, was reading about it from Ziff Davis Media... Apparently it is a mutated version of the original sobig. It is a mass e-mail virus that uses its own built in SMTP engine to send itself using a fake return address picked up from the hard drive or it can read [email protected]...

Yep, I got that one.

I didn't open it, though.

I NEVER open e-mail from and address I don't know and especially if it has an attachment.

I have a website and I get mail thru the webmaster addy. Last week end I was flooded with suspicious mail.

Hey guys, just reading about a new variation to the bug bear virus this one is different in the fact that you DO NOT have to open the attachment just reading the e-mail is enough...



Bugbear takes advantage of a known vulnerability in Microsoft Corp.'s Internet Explorer (IE) and can be run automatically simply by reading the e-mail and not opening the attachment. It can also spread via other e-mail programs, but it will not be automatically run in the same way.
