(DRG2015) The Legend

The Legend

There is a legend that's been told, about a funeral pyre
That brought to life three creatures, from the belly of the fire.

Born to a queen with dragon's blood, she tended them as Mother
In turn they gave their loyalty, to never serve another.

As family they ruled the land, with tolerance and love
All slaves were freed, all needs were met...a world to be proud of.

But legends are not made from happy endings, this is true
Eventually an evil force had penetrated through.

Jealous of the finery adorning everyone
They vowed to kill the people and the dragons, one by one.

The people would not fight themselves, their credo being peace
So the queen went to the catacombs, and sadly claimed "release".

The dragons now were forced to fight, nay...they were forced to kill
But they would do this deed ensuring no more blood would spill.

The victory came easily, with little loss of life
And peace returned immediately following the strife.

The dead were laid respectfully upon a funeral pyre
And 3 more eggs were placed within, to be born of the fire.

I just couldn't get a story out...kept trying, deleting...trying...lol.
I have a strange affliction...rhyming....but it amuses me, so I'm hoping it will amuse others too!

Ummm...Wow..."To be born of the fire"...

This sounds like what we're all going through right now with our submissions..."trial by fire"...
As long as Furry doesn't make us walk over a bed of coals...

Hey, that was excellent! I love poetry and that was worth waiting for. It summed up all Dark Age legends in one, I loved that!

There seems to be a rather large group of dragon fans here, lol. Maybe we're all warriors from a previous time?
Perhaps we've all experienced 'trial by fire'?
