As your outstanding research indicates, the mystery was really the result of a lack of knowledge about metals, rather than some unnatural property of orichalcum. I'm a Thera volcano blew up Atlantis believer, as I consider this is the most rational explanation.

I think it is safe to say it was an alloy which had copper as its major component which would give it the red/pink coloration.

So it could be:
rose gold
cupronickel
Brass
or some other copper alloy

I seriously doubt it was brass because Plato clearly distinguished Orichalcum from brass, he was well aware what brass was and there is no way it was second in value to gold.
