Jordan, a country which border Israel on its Eastern border is now demanding that Israel halt the settlement building on occupied land that the Palestinians want to settle upon. Yet, Israel continues to build more and more settlements, even appropriating more settlements to be built as of just last week if I remember correctly. Anyway, this is a huge mess. Just wanted to share with ATS......

TEL AVIV Israel (Reuters) - Jordan warned Israel on Sunday their peace treaty would be threatened by continued Jewish settlement building on occupied land sought by the Palestinians and any change to the religious status of a key Muslim shrine in Jerusalem.

"All such acts are incompatible with international law and international humanitarian law and if allowed to continue will ultimately imperil the treaty," Jordan's ambassador to Israel, Walid Obeidat, said at an event for the treaty's 20th anniversary.

There is no easy answer to this whole situation but I think putting a stop or at least a halt to the settlement building in the meantime would be a good start. I think certain higher-ups in the Israeli gov. know what they are doing is wrong/ illegal so they are trying to get as much accomplished as they can-while they still can. The problem is that more and more Arab countries and countries worldwide are speaking out against Israeli political aggression, and if Jordan ends its peace treaty this could lead to some serious trouble(s).

There will be no change until the U.S. takes a firmer stance against Israel, human rights campaigners can do a lot but the real influence lies with the power brokers in Washington, and until they start doing something about Israel then it's the staus quo.

Right now, Israel has fairly solid military upper hand in the region. So, if Jordan would end the piece treaty, Israel would most likely interprete that as an invitation to grab some more land, this time from Jordan.

I'm sure the Israeli gov't will give this the attention it deserves and then the appropriate action.... bomb Jordan.

Wow how can you think that's ok? Hope that was sarcasm. Sounds like a terrorist comment.

Israel does NOT want peace, it wants Palestine piece by piece.

The ongoing occupation/annexation is a war crime under international law.

How could the US defend colonial settlers ?

Israel is a criminal entity plain and simple.

Israel to build 1,000 housing units in east Jerusalem

You must be new here. Yes, it's sarcasm. Bombs seems to be Israel's only means of international discourse.

I would say this below is more important and nothing will come of the OP.

Jordan expects to finalize a deal next month with Noble Energy Inc to supply the kingdom with natural gas from Israel's Leviathan field, that could save at least $1.4 billion in the country's annual import energy bill, the energy minister said.

Jordan saw natural gas from huge gas reserves off the eastern Mediterranean coast as the preferred option to ease the country's energy crunch by the end of the decade, energy minister Mohammad Hamed said in an interview.

When Jordan and Israel signed the peace treaty Jordan gave up its claim on the West Bank with the caveat it be used for a Palestinian state.

Jordan has no lost love for Palestinians ever since Palestinians plotted to overthrow his father to seize control of the country. Jordanian military units went into a refugee camp and let loose.

Here is my question and people feel free to point out the issues with it.

Who not let Egypt and Jordan control the West Bank and Gaza strip? Let those areas be an independent nation from Israel while using the Egyptian and Jordanian security authorities to meet Israel security demand?

Palestine doesn't want peace, and they tried to take Israel all in one chunk. The only reason we do not have a 2 state solution is because Palestinians rejected it to start with, and they started terrorist attacks.

Because when they do not secure the area and Israel has to they would be "invading" Egypt and Jordan. Do you think Egypt and Jordan would actually secure the area? It's not possible, the Palestinians themselves want peace less than Israel does.

I think it would be a possibility given certain conditions - namely Hamas being booted out.

Israel was willing to return the Golan Heights to Syria in exchange for recognition and a peace treaty - Syria refused it.

Hamas is an idea. You can not kick out an idea. The people voted Hamas in, the people do not want peace. If Hamas is forcibly removed elements will remain that will continue attacks. Until the Palestinian people choose peace .. which they have not done since the beginning when they rejected a 2 State solution and chose War instead ... there will be no peace.

Jordan is an ally to the United States with some US troop presence. Jordan is more important to the United States than Israel.

It's Israel that doesn't want peace. Haven't you figured that out by now? Hamas is maintained by Israel. When they get too powerful, they assassinate some of its leaders. Israel likes to have the Palestinians separated between Hamas and the PA. If there was actually a unified peaceful Palestine, Israel would not be able to continue to build more settlements on the land of another country. That is how wars can be started over the murder of three teenagers while no one knows who really killed them. All you have to do is blame Hamas. Arafat was murdered by the Israelis because it looked like there would actually be peace. When it looked like there would actually be peace, the 9-11 attacks happened. It is the same story time and time again. When the Palestinian Authority talks about establishing a state, the Israelis rant and rave at the UN. Israel does not want a two state solution. Israel wants a no state solution. If Abbas attempts to declare a state, Israel will find a way to assassinate him. If the Obama administration moves toward recognizing a Palestinian state, Israel will assassinate Obama. If public opinion in the US turns against Israel again because of the genocide of the Palestinians, like it was right before 9-11, there will be another 9-11.

Nice delusion. Israel accepted the 2 State solution back in 1947, Palestinians rejected it and began terror attacks which they have not stopped to this day. They also invaded Israel to remove it from the map and institute a 1 state ruled by Palestinians.

You can try to rewrite history all you want, facts do not change.
