The US and britan trie this before. It resulted in the iranina revolution and, acorrding to one person, wahabbism. Divide and conquer. 'Cept
everyone forgot the conquer part. This tactic was good when the problem was german tribes living beyond the rhine, or african tribes living in the
congo. Now, however, when the people you've been 'dividing' realize that -you- are the reason why their entire world is violence and garbage, they
can actually get back at you.
By starting some kind of rivarly or civil war we can get terrorists to fight each other. If they're fighting themselves they'll forget
about the US.
-Might- work so long as the unifying forces are kept out of play. In the past this was a mix of facism and communism, with the 'arabs' being the
nationality or the muslims in general taking the place of the marxist proletariat, up against the western bougeroise. Baathism and pan-arab
nationalism are still pretty well alive over there, but without baathist iraq and arafat rotting in the dirt, they might be on their way out.
-However- islam as a religion is naturally -unitive-, and is 'pan-arabism' doesn't work, pan-islamism will still be around, so that would allow
them to put aside their local differences to, at least sporadically, organize attacks against the west. Plus, what happens when one side wins? The
Northern Alliance was made up of groups that had fought eachother into utter ruin after the struggle against the communists, and that allowed the
Taliban to sweep in. Notice also that they weren't nationalists nor socialists, but religious conservatives. 'Taliban' itself means
'student'.
Let's face it we can't win a war on terror so why not end it.
Why can't it be won? Destroy the governments and powerstructures throught the region and set up a situation where democratic self rule can come in to
play, while simultaneously reconstructing the countries and removing the reasons for their next gen (or at least a generation or two from now) to take
up arms in a suicide struggle against an unbeatable enemy.
