They are trying to show they are better than the evil creatures who killed their son.
They were trying to celebrate his acheivements and passions,to remember who he was,not the evil deed itself.

But,they are a better person than I if they did say they wished to have mercy on his captors.
His brother did not look as though he shared that view.
Nor do I,unless that mercy is jdam shaped.

He said captors. Maybe he meant captives? I don't know. Still a very strange reaction by the parents. I wouldn't go out in public for DAYS if my son was publically beheaded.

Also the video was very weird. How come the video stops after the knife makes a few cuts and then all of a sudden we see the decapitated body. How come James Foley doesn't let out ANY scream or struggle? Is that not weird? I mean Nick Berg screamed his head off!!!! Is the part of actually cutting the head off missing or not public? I don't want to see it but the video is suspect.

I can totally appreciate your concern. I understand why somebody would not want themselves subjected to such evil (I'm not being sarcastic). Becoming desensitized to this sort of material will make a person less responsive to it and, in this day and age, we need to be as responsive and empathetic as we can be.

But how else do we get meaning out if not by words? Sometimes a video or graphic depiction is very necessary for discussing the topic. I'm not talking about gratuitous content but just what is required to convey the message. For example, the post you are complaining about in this thread. How else could he say what he was trying to say without describing the video?

There is a point which we don't cross where our sense of decency can be over-vigilant and obscure legitimate lines of inquiry. When that line is crossed, we lose history and forget facts. These things are important.

funny u should say that....

I was watching a Hamas spokesman today, and listening to the absurdity of their claims and their tactless linguistic failures i started to feel sorry for him and hamas and other extreme radicals on the whole.

You see.... i realized the inevitability of their doom, something they fail to grasp...

it is funny, but sad.

I know this may be unpopular but are we even sure this beheading happened? I have high suspicions myself. All behedings from the past that we have seen, they showed the entire thing. Why did this one cut out at that exact moment? These videos are usually released (when authentic), with the intention of showing every gory detail. It looked very "Hollywood" to me. RIP if it was real, but again, I am not sold just yet. This just goes to help my case too. The family does definitely NOT seem like they just lost their beloved son...
ETA: I also just wanted to mention the fact that any military person I have ever known, would fight to the death before trashing their country and brother like that. They are VERY proud people. I know if it were me, and I knew my death was about to happen anyway, I would fight struggle, spit in the face of my captors, anything I could do right before I just let them kill me.

Yeah, I caught the tail end of it, very strange, I would have to be subdued and my mouth duct taped.

I have serious anger management issues, I would be livid, and beside myself with grief

An eye for an eye makes the world blind.

Stooping down to ISIS level's of warfare will bring nothing to the table. A simple family can't bring justice for their son, and as someone said everyone deals with grief in different ways. There son who was going into dangerous territory was most likely accepted by his family. It's just like how if a family gets 'angry' because they son or daughter joins the marines and is killed by the enemy in question, should they really be getting angry? No, they should be celebrating the persons life and accepting their choice in occupation, including the risks involved.

Lashing out like this isn't the right way to go. If we lashed out on every instance that angered us it would only lead to more anger hate, racism, and death.

This is the same ISIS we in the west are arming and helping in Syria? They estimate that there are at least 400 brits there doing their jihad thing. The guy doing the talking is a brit . In Oxford street last week ISIS supporters were handing out leaflets and in Sheffield the police arrested 2 guys who took a black flag from an ISIS supporter. Why were these people not arrested? for handing out terrorist leaflets? The leader of ISIS is an al cia da agent like bin ladin was. These ISIS madmen are funded by the west and their allies.

Yes, I have seen that, I just learned over the years not to immediately believe what the US government tries to feed the public. I will just leave it at that. Again, just MY beliefs at the moment.

I know it seems foolish.

But the fact is we go over and Kill ISIS, ISIS then kill some of us, and so on and so forth for the next few years and few decades likely with no results or and many dead?

This isnt a problem a few bombs will sort out, this is a ideology your fighting and fighting ideology have proven in the past to be near impossible.

hatred and revenge will not get the USA anywhere expect MORE ISIS supporters.

You're kidding, right? Have you seen what ISIS has done over the past few months? They will kill whether we bomb that or not. They will kill all 'infidels'.

I'm no psychiatrist but wouldn't emotional shock be going on in their minds. Most of the times the cause of death is old age, disease or accident, never intentional brutal then aired over the internet against the entire population like the way IS did. Maybe the parents/family should be talking to parents of soldiers who died in the line of duty to help with their mourning as KIA by bullets/bombs would be the closest resemblance and their reaction might have been different.

Well I tend to be leery of things now days too, so when they have us all completely confused, they win,

I'm gonna lean on my instinct and intuition, it hasn't failed me very often as I look back through the last few years
