I really learn a lot from this Alaska native outdoors expert on YT "pheshayr" channel (Lonnie). He is 60+ years so over 50 years os outdoors has taught him a lot in real survival wilderness-Alaska with his brother and talking to Native Indians who share knowledge with him.

Before you view the video, think of your approach prior to learning Lonnie's.

I might suggest he keep his arms locked and his hands on the trunk when he is near that tree when it is almost ready to snap off at his cut line.

If it springs back on him and his elbows are locked it will simply push him away,if his arms are not locked and his face is near the trunk he could be in for trouble.

I think the angle applied is necessitates arm's bent a little.
You could be right though...I haven't tried this yet.

I knew the guy would fell the tree, I have "batoned" a tree down before for kicks.
I just was more worried about his dog not being able to see how tall that tree went.
I wish he would have just "sit, stay, good boy" his doggie.

Now somebody is going to find the stump and think there is a 5 foot tall Beaver running around the woods.

That is what I was thinking as well.
Now we know that Mossy Mariner on his back was not for bear, but for beaver!
In the immortal words of the Monty Python troupe, "RUN AWAY, RUN AWAY".

Lol - just laughing at those responding, worried about Lonnie's dog...

His dog has probably been more places and seen more than most, and given the experience of this outdoorsman I'd say his dog is in very good hands.

Everybodys a critic.

Thanks for posting.

I like those wire saws you can buy. They seem to work fairly well and are small enough to pack in your backpack.

As my brother would say " How can I fell a tree with just a knife?" They don't call him Stabby Macstabbystabstab for nothing...

He'd be there for hours but at least he'd be quiet for a while.

This would be a tough video to make!

Dig dirt....Put tree roots in hole....Cover in dirt....Whew, never thought we would make it through this process together!
