True story.

Four Ohio class SSBN missile subs, the Ohio, Michigan, Florida, and Georgia, had their ballistic missiles removed. The tubes were reworked and replaced with 154 Tomahawk missiles and redesignated SSGNs.

Some Pentagon staff weenie came up with the genius idea of calling them the OMFG (Ohio/Michigan/Florida/Georgia) Class missile subs.

Would that be because Zorgon lead us to Naval Space Command?

No, that would be true with or without Zorgon.

For when it's imperative that everything must die.

SSGN. For when you care enough to send the very best.

If any submarine could be called an OMFG class submarine, it would be this one

From "Arpeggio In Blue Steel". (The figurine is Iona, the A.I. that runs the ship).

That and the fact that they have a lot of experience working around ballistic missiles. Put a "SSBN" in space with lots of nukes and have it orbit at the ready to do whatever it's ordered to do. Cuts the early warning of an impending nuke strike in half or better. Ie no real warning.

Use it's rumored existence as leverage to keep putin types from acting up too much. Make it so that it can land when called to. Say once a week, month, 6 months, as needed. Someone goes "you're weaponising space with nukes." You bring her down to hide or just move her to a different orbit and say "inspect whats up there all you like. Were not doing anything." And when they don't find anything go "See theres nothing there."

I'd be super upset if I was a NASA astronaut and fond out that the USN has their own space program with more advanced craft.

The ISS looks like a fort some prepubescent adolescents made out of junk found in their parents garage. I guess the station was designed to have panels to cover everything and keep it tidy -- but the astronauts are to busy and lazy to clean up after installing a new piece of gear.

You'd think that would be a personality requirement before sending someone into space: the natural instinct to be tidy.

What if during the shuttles halcyon days it was the safest way to travel outside the atmosphere and the secret stuff was waaay more dangerous due to technological mishaps? Like, maybe they astronauts all had to draw straws to see who would get assigned to the quantum inertial exploder ....uhh explorer, explorer and who got to do the shuttle cover mission and the shuttle astronauts were the lucky ones?

I actually believe that the NASA astronauts don't have a clue about our "other" astronauts.

well, on that subject

Dr. Strangelove: Of course, the whole point of a Doomsday Machine is lost, if you *keep* it a *secret*! Why didn't you tell the world, EH?
Ambassador de Sadesky: It was to be announced at the Party Congress on Monday. As you know, the Premier loves surprises.

What's the point of a doomsday weapon unless the other side knows about it?
