The pitchforks are coming for us plutocrats!

Filthy rich 0.01-percenter makes the point that if you have a massively unequal society then the plebs get their pitchforks out and have themselves a jolly revolution......at the expense of the rich!

Revolutions, like bankruptcies, come gradually, and then suddenly. One day, somebody sets himself on fire, then thousands of people are in the streets, and before you know it, the country is burning. And then there’s no time for us to get to the airport and jump on our Gulfstream Vs and fly to New Zealand. That’s the way it always happens. If inequality keeps rising as it has been, eventually it will happen. We will not be able to predict when, and it will be terrible—for everybody. But especially for us.

He's not talking about drivel like Obama being a tyrant, or militarized police, or illegal immigration, or any of that other nonsense.

He's just talking about minimum wage and lower generating hopelessness and nothing to lose.

And his suggestion to fix it - why it is to get richer of course - but not in an idiot "trickle down" way that doesn't actually work:

The most ironic thing about rising inequality is how completely unnecessary and self-defeating it is. If we do something about it, if we adjust our policies in the way that, say, Franklin D. Roosevelt did during the Great Depression—so that we help the 99 percent and preempt the revolutionaries and crazies, the ones with the pitchforks—that will be the best thing possible for us rich folks, too. It’s not just that we’ll escape with our lives; it’s that we’ll most certainly get even richer.

Sounds like one of the few elite who actually has some common sense. Unfortunately he is .01% of the .01% who feel that way.

He makes some very valid points, but its nothing myself and many many others have been screaming at the top of their lungs for years.

People are getting paid meager wages that cause them to have to rely on the gov't. This increases the deficit and weakens the country as a whole. If the people were paid a living wage, they would no longer need to rely on the gov't, so that spending would decrease, while the money from the increase in income taxes would help reduce the deficit and strengthen the country.

I'ts not a matter of taking all the rich people's money, its about restoring balance. Bad stuff happens when things get this out of balance, so its only a matter of time before history repeats itself.

What's being said here is good except why another FDR? If his ideas for helping the poor worked it would still be working wouldn't it? Its controversial I guess.

There is a really simple solution but I'm not an economist so for what it's worth, bring the jobs back home, and lower the cost of living.
