If you have ever called one of your representative's and felt that you were just blown off by the response they gave you, do you think this Supreme Court decision will improve your representative's willingness to listen to the average citizen? Do you feel this just made it easier for the 1% to buy and own politicians and henceforth our country?

Just this past Sunday I held a town meeting in Middlebury, Vt., with a video connection to meetings in three other towns. At these town meetings I listen to what my constituents have to say, answer questions and give a rundown of what I'm working on and what's going on in Washington. This process – an elected official meeting with ordinary citizens – is called "democracy." Ironically, at the same time as I was holding town meetings in Vermont, a handful of prospective 2016 Republican presidential candidates (Jeb Bush, John Kasich, Chris Christie and Scott Walker) trekked to Las Vegas to audition for the support of Sheldon Adelson, the multi-billionaire casino tycoon who spent at least $93 million underwriting conservative candidates in the last election cycle. Those candidates were in Las Vegas for the sole purpose of attempting to win hundreds of millions from him for their presidential campaigns.

Yeah I know I am partisan...I get it blah blah

Why would conservatives hate this? They want freedom to spend money or do what they want? Now the SCOTUS has said "spend all the money you wish! You're FREE to do so" So in a way this gives corporations and people more freedom...so what's the issue on the right?

And I hate to say it is partisan...but look at the vote split

Now bear in mind I am not saying us liberals are innocent because...well no that would take ages to describe the stupid crap the left has done

LOL ... I woke up and was like ... whaaat??

ETA: On-Topic: As far as the partisanship of the SCOTUS goes, I am quite concerned. If the SCOTUS stoops to partisan bias, are We The People getting a fair shake when it comes to the Law of the Land?

If I were elected POTUS today, I admit it would take me no more than an hour to get rid of the seated justices.

This little game the Dems are trying to pull to get Ginsburg to step down is pretty good proof of what some folks are saying in this thread.

absolutely not...

which is why i said earlier:

"a prerequisite to being a supreme court justice should be an absolute dedication to neutrality, and absolute willingness to uphold the law, AS IT IS WRITTEN, not as one WISHES it was written."

they should be flushed, and replaced by people who can do the job correctly...

Why do democrats hate it?

Why do republicans like it?

Is it because both parties in terms of finances are on equal footing now?

How can you be so naive?

Do you think the big money corporations won't contribute to the Democrats?

www.washingtonpost.com...

Try as you might; this isn't a partisan issue it's economic. In fact the democrats may benefit from this ruling more than the GOP and inturn win the dembs the POTUS once again.

Let the whining begin....No matter how much money the GOP spends; without the minorities, women and seniors they're going to lose once again. I seriously doubt if that demographic will ever trust the Republicans. The GOP doesn't need money; they need a strategy and platform to win back voters!!!

Democrats on the outside may be decrying this decision but in smoke filled rooms they are doing the happy dance.

I'm happy with the decision. Now we conservative can go toe to toe with all of the democrat unions out there.

great, so now you'll have your equal chance to manipulate votes, buy elections, and subvert the entire electoral process.....

the fact that you see this as some kind of victory, makes me feel sorry for you...

As the wise man once said, "When in Rome do as the Romans do." and as the mafia boss once said to his beloved nephew as they were doing the rounds, "Listen son, sometimes you gotta do whatcha gotta do, know hat I mean?"

Money is power. If the democrats can use it at will so should the conservatives.

so, because someone else is doing something wrong, you'd rather stoop to their level, instead of trying to put a stop to it?

that's 5 year-old logic...

I have no idea, that's what the article said, I was thinking that the Republicans were going to have a lot more finances than Democrats, that seemed to be implied. It might not be the case, that is a good contention. I recommend reading Olaru12's link.

The minorities and women don't like Republicans because the Republicans will outright try to harm them, even when results in a net loss of money to do so - the same goes for anyone who needs government aid to survive.

Republicans would rather kick the Mexicans out of the country than do anything positive for them to get their votes.

Republicans would rather take away the woman's right to vote than do anything positive to get her vote.

And the list goes on. Of course they aren't going to get these votes, and they shouldn't.

-----

But back to the original topic, a lot of money can influence a lot of votes in a lot of shady ways. For example, exchanging favors, and the money could be used for who knows what along the campaign trail - but probably misinformation, disinformation and personal attacks, none of which I prefer hearing.
