Here is some good news regarding registered membership in political parties. Only 30 states include party affiliation so this is a fraction of what may be an increasing trend toward personal freedom and smaller and less intrusive government.

Libertarian Party bucks trend with 11% increase in voter registration

WASHINGTON - According to ballot access expert Richard Winger, Libertarian Party voter registration in the U.S. has grown 11.4% since late 2012. Registration in all other nationally-organized parties has decreased.

The states with the largest percent increases were Idaho (161% increase), Wyoming (68% increase), Nebraska (55% increase), and Louisiana (33% increase).

That is a good trend.

I find the libertarians a bit more educated on politics while the other two party cheerleaders get confused between libertarian and librarians.

Awesome, people are starting to grow fed up of the two reigning parties and are starting to explore alternate options. It's about time. Both the Republican and Democrat parties need to go.

Not sure of the actual number but, yes indeed, we have a long road ahead of us!

being a SC resident... i register as Independent

i miss out on voting in the MainStream Primaries that way... but, i can opt for any candidate from Green Party to Constitution Party, to Libertarian Party (well actually any Republican or Democrat can vote outside their Party too.... )
but that act would be considered Treason by most of those who are locked in to their affiliation... just like their religion --- locked in to it for life !

Forward.... might be the meme that becomes the norm and all other rebellious voters will become demonized outcasts or fringe wing-nuts, there has got to be a smear campaign to be unpacked for the 2014 election cycle

I am not suggesting anyone else register Independent... but the way i see it...
i have plausable deniability on my side as i explain to the thought-police that registering Independent
does not brand me ither Democrat oe Republican --- nor any Protest Party voter as declaring Libertarian/Socialist/Green/Constitution/or Liberty Party would do...
i try to think things through to cover all-the-bases as i desire to stay alive and abundant even with a Dystopia in the Future

I agree, I have my own reservations about the current stewards of the libertarian party itself but, they are mostly to do with how inept they have been on a practical level considering that they have been around for 40 years. But, we must remember that a libertarian politician is very nearly an oxymoron so they get a pass for time served in my book.

Yes they do. Unfortunately, I would not be surprised if this trend will be squashed once the gov't and corporations go full blown Nazi on the internet.

I think the internet did a lot to wake up the people on how the 2 party system have the same agenda: Bigger gov't , more taxes, and less privacy.

Interesting.
Much of my family leans left (blue collar, union left) while I have always leaned right, but more Libertarian than what we now call Republican.

Anyway, They seem quite pleased with the "splintering" of the different parties that lean right.
I continually point out the fact that this "splintering" shows that there is some individual thought amongst these parties, and that it is healthy, as opposed to having no difference of opinion, and simply toeing then party line.

2016 is going to be a 'Reagan' moment, we will just have to find (and perhaps coerce) someone to do that when that election happens. Such a person could get through to enough Democrats and Republicans to upset the balance.

For now, there is plenty to do for the avid Libertarian on the local and state level.

I kinda fear that you're correct, in that we will swing deep into modern-day Republican territory as a backlash against the previous 8 years.

I no longer see that as a lesser evil, just the other evil.

It is a reference to the "Reagan Moment", that is to say, what we thought was going to happen back then.

But, to quote himself, "trust but, verify" will have to apply to the federal bureaucracy this time around.

There is certainly no reason the candidate can't be a Libertarian.

I think that if the ballots were forbidden from putting a candidates parties affiliation it would do wonders for the vote because the people who vote party line would need to learn what they line was.

How about if they have to name all of the candidates and summarize their respective views in order to gain admittance to vote.

Meanwhile we don't pay attention to the mass silence of the one libertarian that did run.. But meh.. I suppose there is some hope that the Democratic process might eventually work one day..(not really) The reason I say this I am told the tea party started right and ended highjacked..

Gary Johnson is a good guy, the Libertarian party itself isn't well organized and Ron Paul jumped ship to make a go of it.
