Russia Prepares Mega-Deal With India After Locking Up China With "Holy Grail" Gas Deal

Rosneft CEO Igor Sechin, an ally of President Vladimir Putin, travelled to India on Sunday, part of a wider Asian trip to shore up ties with eastern allies at a time when Moscow is being shunned by the West over its annexation of Crimea.

Rosneft said it had also agreed with ONGC they may join forces in Rosneft's yet-to-be built liquefied natural gas plant in the far east of Russia to the benefit of Indian consumers.

Rosneft, which is increasing oil flows to Asia to diversify away from Europe, did not provide any additional details but said it had discussed potential cooperation with Reliance Industries and Indian Oil.

The company said Sechin and the head of Indian conglomerate Reliance Industries also met and discussed potential cooperation in developing Russia's offshore resources, viewed by Moscow as a source of future oil production growth.

At the same time, Russia is trying to diversify its energy flows away from its core European markets, with Rosneft leading the race with plans to triple oil flows to China to over 1 million barrels per day in coming years.

This will take few years to materialize without a doubt but once this is in place i believe both these deals i.e Russia and China and Russia and India deal with most probably conduct the deal in local currencies and not in dollars ...

Thats why Pakistan was created to stop them 3 from linking up. China Russia and Indian. They have the resources the man power and tech to take on the the west.

I doubt its going to go through Pakistan , am guessing the gas will go to Chabar port and then come by sea route either by ship or the undersea pipeline being built

Sorry what I meant was the status of Kashmir. While we always see the Pakistan - India issues for that region, people tend to not know that China also has a chunk of Kashmir under their control and also disputes the border in that area.

Secondly you have conflicting ideologies / interests between India and China. India sent some naval vessels to Vietnam for a port call and was confronted by Chinese naval vessels upon their departure.

India and china have also fought several wars over their borders. For the last decade China has been improving infrastructure on their side of the border. The improvements are not for economic growth either. They have built several new / upgraded several older military installations as well.

On the Indian side they have commissioned (or whatever term is used) a new army group with their top of the line battle tanks. That group, once operational readiness is complete, will be stationed on the border with China.

While China and Russia are in lockstep on several issues, there remains the ghosts of the past that continually seeps into their relations and it seems to prevent them from forming any type of significant military alliance. While the 2 sides have recently held joint war games there is a long way to go...

Due to India's neighbors and the past involved, its prudent for India to remain neutral. If they were to condemn Russia it could very well place them into a position of eventually having to confront Pakistan, China and Russia.

In this case their neutrality, from their position, makes perfect sense. What I meant by Kashmir is the status of the territory. If India were to condemn Russian actions, it could be used against them should the Kashmir region slide back into open hostilities.

Its the same Reason China is playing both sides of the fence as well. If China condemn Russian actions it would undermine their argument should their claims in the South China sea devolve into open conflict. The argument Russia used is the same one china has been using (historically who owned what).
