There is undoubtedly a political reason as well. Members of the diplomatic corps are extremely aware of how Israel's policies are affecting their relationship with other nations. They may be sending a message that the policies need to change if diplomacy is to be successful.

Contrary to what one poster commented, the vast majority of Jews in Israel are not rich! They struggle to pay their bills like everyone else! Because a few famous bankers are supposedly rich, it doesn't necessarily mean all Jews are rich.
