The problem is larger than this issue. Stop looking at ONE prong of the fork... look at WHO is holding the fork and WHAT they are trying to accomplish with it.

One thing at a time...first..people have to be made aware of where the lions share of their tax dollars are going. Most haven`t the slightest clue.

Once that sinks and they can accept that...then we get on to the who...and eventually what we want to do about it.

Baby steps.

Well neo it isn't always about spending more money to buy more consumer goods people need money for food , shelter, clothing to be able to afford to by their child basic supplies for school for a basic education, retirement. How is a wallfart employee working on the floor going to make that quota they can't and will have to rely on old age welfare /pension provided by socialist governments paid by everyone .

Top 1 % have hoards and hoards of personal wealth to last their family for generations and generations and the middle mid income earners and below are scraping just to get by . ya seems legit .

when the top ceo of general motors before 2008 was getting 350 million a year for his salary I would of quit after a month and retired but no these kind of people are greedy beyond belief and assume they must amass huge hoards of money for what ever reason is sick while people in every western country are have people struggling to put food on their tables for their families .This is so beyond out of control the western world is a capitalistic society all paid and funded by us the working man

yeah freedom my ass freedom isn't being a slave to a dollar to the bank to the government .

In case you missed it....the purpose of this thread is to expose the "right hand" that is stealing from us.

I'm sorry you think this approach is childish. It seems to me only logical that people need to be made aware that a problem exists...before they can start looking for the culprits...and ultimately...the solutions required to fix that problem.

Bear in mind....we're on the same team here, with the same objectives (at least, I hope)

How the US as a nation conducts business is disgusting. How many politicians are bought off by these fortune 100s specifically for this reason...might be easier to figure out who isn't.

1.2 trillion in corporate welfare boggles the mind. I can't even understand 1.2 million, or thousand...

So..how do we the people change this then? I wonder if corruption is too big to fail

People's attitude about taxes is hypocritical. On the one hand, when someone gets a "tax break," it is quickly pointed out that those taxes weren't the government's money in the first place. That was the people's money confiscated by the government then, sometimes, "returned" to them so they're happy to get a refund of taxes that represents money that was theirs in the first place. "Taxes" amount to government extortion in the first place and a "tax break" just means the government is relenting a little bit so you can make some more money for them to confiscate the next year, kind of like seed corn so THEY (not you) can confiscate a bigger crop next year. Sound familiar?

But when it comes to "corporations" people get angry when they are given "tax breaks" because that means corporations are not paying "their fair share." So WHY are corporations somehow in a different category? Isn't it the same issue? The government taxes corporations in the same way it taxes people. Indeed, if you look closely at the taxes the government takes from oil companies, as one example, you will see that the government makes more money off a gallon of gas than Exxon does.

In one recent quarter the government took $32 billion in taxes from Exxon Mobil which earned $11 billion in profits during the same period. So why you all criticize Exxon Mobil for daring to make a profit, the government takes THREE TIMES more than that in taxes, yet you still gripe when Exxon gets a "tax break."

So just WHO do you think pays "corporate taxes"?? Any guesses? Do you think the Big Bad corporations pay those taxes? Of course not.

YOU DO, chump!

Taxes are passed on as a part of the cost of the product. YOU pay them all. Every dime. Employees of these corporations pay taxes to the government at the same rates you do, from executives to janitors. Stockholders pay taxes to the government on every dollar of dividends they receive. They also pay taxes if they dare to sell their shares. The government is there at every level imaginable, taking taxes from the corporation, from the employees, form the stockholders, and ultimately, from YOU.

Yet you dislike what you call "corporate welfare." For a place like ATS that purports to "deny ignorance" the government surely has fed you a story that you have swallowed hook, line, and sinker. Why do we need disinfo agents when you already believe so wholeheartedly?

But lets say even if we dismantled the government completely and rebuilt it, it would be the same exact thing, the same structure, the same corruption, and probably the same people.
The thing is, its allowed to go on, because enough people think its a good thing.

not to point out the obvious, but there are some in this very thread that come in and defend such actions. that accounts for up to 30% of the population that would reinstitute this and more.
Another 30% whom simply don't care so long as they get to watch their favorite TV show and have a beer at the pub.

So, ultimately, the minority on this issue are the ones whom see a problem. the rest either thumbs up or thumbs in ears this.

What to do...what to do..

Well when a person has more money they sure the hell are not going to put it in a checking,savings, or money market that pays a .01% rate of return for a year.

They are going to spend it.

They are going to take out more loans at an evil bank.

ExxonMobil in 2011 made $27.3 billion in cash payments for income taxes. Chevron paid $17 billion and ConocoPhillips $10.6 billion. And not only were these the highest amounts in absolute terms, when compared with the rest of the 25 most profitable U.S. companies (see our slideshow for the full rundown of who paid what), the trio also had the highest effective tax rates. Exxon’s tax rate was 42.9%, Chevron’s was 48.3% and Conoco’s was 41.5%. That’s even higher than the 35% U.S. federal statutory rate, which is already the highest tax rate among developed nations.

Exxon Mobile is NOT in the Fortune Top 100....therefore they aren't in the club when it comes to the 1.2 Trillion.

But it is also important to note that in spite of the tax rate they paid...they still made a profit of over 41 BILLION. Not a bad year I'd say.

If I were Exxon, I'd be wondering why the Top 100 companies get all the tax breaks in the world...PLUS unlimited access to the tax dollars of the American people.

Theoretically indeed. In reality, what you get is a new face selling the same old bill of goods.

I do not necessarily think it needs to be dismantled entirely...the system is a good one...the best man has come up with so far. What needs to happen is a return to the rule of law and the Constitution for starters.

You have nothing at all to loose by trying...but you will surely lose everything eventually if you do nothing....including cable.
