This is short notice but tonight there's a conference on Space commercialization tonight hosted by Degrasse Tyson with Panelists that comprise a virtual who's who in commercial space. The panel includes: Michael Gold of private space station company Bigelow Aerospace; analyst John Logsdon of George Washington University; Elliot Pulham of the non-profit group Space Foundation; Tom Shelly of space tourism company Space Adventures; and Robert Walker of Wexler & Wexler Public Policy Associates"Panelists. The purpose of this debate is to discuss the private Space travel movement that is building momentum and unfolding right before our eyes. Anyone interested can watch it online at Space.com

Good point. However, I think "private" is meant as who can actually attend the event.

I think they mean privately-owned space companies, like the ones mentioned in the OP quote, as opposed to government agencies like NASA.
