NAIROBI, Kenya -- The police in the island nation of Seychelles Friday denied suggesting that two former U.S. Navy SEALs may have died from a drug overdose on a ship.

The two Americans - Jeffrey Reynolds and Mark Kennedy, both 44 - were found dead Tuesday in a cabin on the Maersk Alabama. Maersk Line said in a statement on Thursday that drugs were found in their room, citing a police report.
The ship was hijacked by pirates in 2009, an event dramatized in the movie "Captain Phillips" starring Tom Hanks.

A statement from the Seychelles police on Friday said that, despite the reports, the police "never released any reports suggesting" that the two Americans may have died from a drug overdose.

The police said autopsies being performed next week on the men were expected to establish the cause of the two deaths.

The U.S. Coast Guard is also investigating the deaths.

The two men worked for U.S.-based Trident Security, according to police. Former military personnel frequently provide security on board ships sailing through the waters off Somalia to provide security against pirate attacks.

I'm sorry if this was already reported but I couldn't find anything related to it in the search engine.

Anyways, why are so many navy seals and ex-navy seals dying? I was watching CNN and they were both found in the ship with heroin and needles still stuck in their arms (or laying close by) dead from apparent respiratory depression. They said when the Maersk Alabama docked they went bar hopping with a group of people and then went to a couple different casinos where the last videos of them were getting kicked out at closing and leaving with 2 females... I'm sorry but being suicided by heroin OD seems just too convenient and easy. Especially for 2 ex seals that were in great shape and happy with their lives, although this chain of islands is known for harboring many wealthy individuals along with great quantities of IV heroin use.

Is it just me or does it seem like too many Navy Seals are surviving their most dangerous missions in their lifetimes only to die from accidents and trivial events later on when they aren't needed anymore?

Yea, the story is here on ATS. And only one was a former SEAL, the other just worked in the Unit.

They aren't Gods...people screw up all the time. Even the best of us. They're only human after all.

And the investigation and autopsies have not yet been released. No conspiracy here yet.

I think it's just weird that even though that navy seal wasn't part of saving Phillips he died by a kinda association I guess. Just like the Bin Laden seals... Wait have we got to see the picture of Osama's corpse yet? Sorry if I'm getting off topic it just seems like if you're a seal related to some big story you end up dying later X-P

I can't speculate but I knew an ex-Delta operator and he was a drunken mess. Fighting and getting kicked out of bars and casinos constantly.

Maybe it was a ptsd thing or lack of adrenaline producing activities. I highly doubt they would turn to herion but who knows.

Too say they were happy with their lives??? sailing around on a boring ship, maybe making bank but no family to be with?

Maybe playing out the the plot of the Arnold movie "Commando"... some disgraced Seal or the son of some disposed tyrant killing off the team members.

Or.... Maybe they were the phantom divers photographed in the Fuddy post earlier??? That is food for thought
