They have decided to build their own carrier. The Russians must not have had an old one to sell.

asia.nikkei.com...

The first of four will take six years to build so 2020 will be interesting.

I think they are getting ahead of themselves. The carrier is useless if you can't protect it, and that takes a lot of other surface ships and subs. They are actively upgrading their navy but that takes time and money. We shall see.

With as much spare $$$ as they've spent on ghost cities, I'm surprised they didn't invest in a couple of new shipyards for faster production.

I also wonder what their level of technology they'll come up with by then.

I'm curious.
So china copies everything we assume.
Their last stealth aircraft was not good enough for them...they sell the planes.
They acquire a Russian carrier...
Steal drones..computer hardware...you all get it.

So is the game being played now....take the best of all the world. Then rebuild it even better/take the best bits..
Now apply superiority? Hmm..pattern?

The only thing I have seen that the Chinese perfected is walls and fireworks, so we will have to wait and see what they come up with.

This is their 2nd carrier, not the 1st they are building. Theyve purchased and studied those since the 1970's.

Their 1st carrier was commissioned in 2012.

I think that they are just taking a page out of the US's cold war strategy.

Outspend the opponent, and freak them out in the process.

Actually, that's very Chinese. The US took a page out of Sun Tzu's book.

Well, it'll be a good long while till those "new" aircraft carriers come to be, I bet they are going to rush productions to get them out to sea and start bullying their way around in the south china sea....
By then of course, the US will have already upgraded their fleets, some new ships an tech too.

The South China Sea is one location. The Indian Ocean is the other and they've put a lot of resources into their right for a nice Naval base at Gwadar, Pakistan. A lot of resources are going to run high speed rail and transport from Gwadar, through tunnels to cross Kashmir, and into Western China to their domestic high speed rail network.

China is playing a large game for global stakes and must find it amusing how so many over look that. It's a concerning thing tho...
