It has most likely been discussed.

But there are one or two members on here I would just love to ignore.

They are so rigid thinking and basically "thick" I just cant debate with them logically without getting het up to point I either want to leave ATS or end up with a manners T&C. Normally everything is Left verse right thing and so ridged with no debate, just throwing terms likes progressive about with any disagreement.

I try to ignore these very few members but they always seem to find a way onto a thread IM posting on and normally have a good debate and ruining it,

I would just love a way to block all content from them as to me they contribute nothing.

I want to discuss interesting topics on ATS and debate them even with people that respectfully hold different opinions. Not argue or get into pointless flame wars with partisan blockheads.

Maybe im just pissed off

I just get fed up of the same one or two members turning a good debate into some rigid blockeaded left/right flame feast.

I know people have diffrent opinions and 99.9999% its great discussing them and learning even if they are alo diffrent.

But its just one or two members that just really really really get under my skin, not because they even hold a diffrent opinuon but just there attitude.

You might have to not respond and therefore ignore them on your own. I kinda gave up running discussions due to the fact people will go back and edit their posts if the discussion doesn't suit them.

An *ignore" option existed in the past and got removed, so not having one looks like a deliberate policy.

I would use an 'ignore' button. On several people.

Especially those who continually express anti-American sentiment for things our corrupt government officials do.

Americans are NOT the government, nor do we have any control over them. Corporate America owns the government, and the citizens of the United States of America.

One; two; three.....ATTACK!

There was an ignore list option years ago, but this got removed with one of the site updates.

I think it's a feature that should be brought back. I can understand the reasoning for wanting to remove it. It kinda forces people to grow up and face their least favorite opinions. That being said, there does seem to be a correlation between the removal of this feature, and a general trend in growth of hostility on the site.

Maybe it should be reconsidered? SO does have to periodically remind us to remain civil, and seems to observe the trend I've mentioned. Maybe he will bring it back in the future.

I get that some people we should learn to live with.

And there are a few I guess I dont like on ATS but I wouldnt not ignore or block them.

But no matter who you are there is alway 1 or 2 people that you just cant exist with and will alway know how to press you buttons.

Well, there are some folks I'd like to use an ignore button on in my offline life, but that isn't an option. Nor do I think it should be an option here. If the person is breaking T&C, report them. If not, it sounds like they have strong opinions, as do you. Surely two or three adults can agree to disagree, and work out a mutually beneficial resolution that allows you to coexist on the same website.

I had a knockdown, dragout, with a member here once. If I'd had an ignore button, I'd have used it. At this point however, I have come to appreciate that members point of view. If I had ignored that member, I'd have missed some very good posts...

Just a thought. Sometimes we need to take a look at ourselves, and find out why those few people get under our skin so easily. Maybe it is we who need to change.

Just some insight.

The ignore function was removed because it slowed the site down significantly. Rendering a different set of viewing options to individual members based upon a member's individual selection of criteria bogs things down a lot.

Two things that went by the wayside to help speed things up - (1)ignore and (2) number of views per thread.

Some miss one or the other or both, some miss neither.

And there you go.

I know what you're saying and I've decided to not respond to both of these "sides". Same old talking points anyway. Why don't you guys ignore each other and let discussion continue? It's getting old.

I know you have a point. My only problem is even if I ignore he will still reply to my posts then I feel obliged to defend my self especialy if what I have said has (as normaly the case) been taken out of context. Sometimes I have just left a thread entirly which I hate as I still like to discuss and talk with other members.

But I guess I should try to be a bit more resolved I guess.

Funny that you should mention the thing with the ignore function. I was looking for the same function yesterday.

I suspect certain individuals on this site is working for the government or such, trying to trivialize and to discourage members that are interested in certain topics.
( I don't even bother to discuss with these individuals, but of course an ignore button would be awesome )

Speaking strictly from my member perspective?

Wouldn't you think an Ignore option would get maddening, even when you set it on people yourself? If they happen to be active folks who post a lot, you'll miss what they say but then you'll see all the replies both agreeing and disagreeing (one side or the other, sure to be the wrong side for ya) without so much as the context of why 'these stupid replies' are coming.

..of course, quotes would likely still be visible, further compounding the confusion.

Thinking of all that? Heck.. I wouldn't want the option myself. Sounds like more mental work than just skipping on past the annoyance in question.

Imo you aren't trying very hard. I'm referring to the "blockheads" as well as "progressives." Personally I wouldn't even have responded to this but I have hope that this crap will end.

I thought we were supposed to deny ignor ance here on ATS. Having an ignore button would be bad, how can we learn if we ignore anything that does not fit our beliefs?

I know, I would be the first one hit to be ignored

Dude... I know we don't Always get along but... you're just gonna... ignore me? Woah... just gonna go ahead an "zap" me right out of existence? That's... I dunno man... that's deep. I mean, I have feelings too. Did it ever occur to you that maybe I'm miserable inside and out and my arguments with you are the closest thing I have to real, honest human interaction? I spend all damn day in this cubicle working my fingers to the bone and do you think Mr. Donaldson gives any notice to that fact? Do you? Well I'll tell you the answer to that mystery, Sherlock! NO!! No, he does Not!!! And as soon as I get home, the wife shoves the baby in my arms and rushes out the door with barely an explanation where she's going, let alone a hug or a kiss or a "how was your day, honey?". And you expect ME to come here and kiss up to You? Ha.. haha! I come here every day and what do you know, there's mister Happy go lucky ewok boy with his furry littlle face and his "polite discussion" like you've just got the perfect little life, and so, well, of course I wanna screw it all up! How can you blame me after what you've done to me?? YOU...RUINED...MY...LIFE!!!!!! Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!

Actually I don't believe we've met. But the above is how I like to look at, hmm, well pretty much anyone who disagrees with me...just kidding but just remember that some people out there are miserable, and misery loves company

you don't need an ignore button. Let this be an exercise for you to willfully ignore anyone who you do not wish to speak to. Maybe give them one reply, ending with "i guess we will have to agree to disagree. Well, good luck to you sir or madam, i was enjoying my discussion with these other folks and i think I'll go continue that now. Good day!"

Don't LET them ruin your day. And just remember some people are hurting inside... in fact, they say all negative emotions like anger, come from pain. So, that pain becomes anger, bitterness, cruelty, etc, and if you are not careful in your approach, your words become firewood to feed this anger. It's quite a useful skill to be able to quench the flame instesd. Try humor. Pretend you did not understand them correctly, and reply in a whimsical manner that breaks the tension. Then, move on...

Good luck buddy. I surely do feel your "pain" if it's any reconciliation. But I agree with the no ignore button policy.

I know it was just explained as a site-bogging deal, but it if were ever possible to offset that with a fee (like, to pay for a better/faster host, if that's what it boils down to, throwing darts here) to pay for the privilege of using Ignore here, I would definitely pay to use it. There are a few posters on here that strike me as total trolls (i.e never inputting anything useful, aiming to derail, etc) that I would love to make vanish from the threads with a simple click. Nothing is worse than a good thread being sullied with multiple pages of a buttmunch hijacking it.

If you guys could make a Pay-To-Ignore service work, I think it would be well worth it
