Social Security Disability is a program that benefits people who can't work anymore due to specific illnesses and injuries.

Right now we have around 9 million people collecting various amounts.

Quite a few of these recipients are collecting under fraudulent means.

A new report has been issued that exposes some the more outrageous claims.

The government spends something like $130 billion a year on the program.

The fraud involves a keen network of lawyers, doctors, and judges.

Report Details Social Security Disability Fraud

The first five years of the Obama Administration have witnessed the birth of a new health care entitlement, ObamaCare. It has also witnessed an explosion in existing entitlements, particularly the Food Stamp program and Social Security Disability payments. Today, almost 9 million Americans receive disability payments from Social Security, far more than ever envisioned by creators of the program. A new report from Our Generation details the 10 most outrageous examples of fraud in the program.

__________________________

This recent exposure is particularly alarming......

An Eastern Kentucky lawyer has earned $22.7 million in attorney's fees from the Social Security Administration since 2001, in part through a lucrative "scheme" to defraud the agency's disability benefits programs, a U.S. Senate committee said in a report released Monday.

Eric C. Conn, 53, a Floyd County lawyer who calls himself "Mr. Social Security" in his colorful billboard and television advertisements, rigged medical records and steered hundreds of his check-seeking clients to an administrative law judge who rushed their cases through the system, according to a two-year investigation by the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.

Show me one government program that is not rife with fraud? One of the problems with this direction is there will be those who are honestly on disability who will be harassed and possibly disallowed the benefits once the steam roller gets to moving.

On the other hand there was a thread about a large percentage of some town in America where due to the business climate many were on disability because of a few lawyers actions. Funny the lawyers only make less than $600 when they file for someone to receive benefits and it is approved... if I remember correctly ?

Social security is becoming more and more under the microscope because of the cost...maybe that would not be the case if there were not so many government IOUs in the fund to begin with ?

You and I both hate cheats an corruption where ever it exist.

This has got to be one of my biggest pet peeves.

Where is the outrage on this? [except the comment section under the article...good comments]

The people who genuinely are disabled don't get anything but denial letters or YEARS of waiting.

The fraud around where I live and where I used to live makes my blood boil. Its not all they get either.

I already ranted about this once already in another thread.

Kids can get SSDI or SSI for all kinds of things nowdays on top of if the the parent[s] are on it PLUS all the other gov. goodies.

Thanks for posting this.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, look at it this way: Every dollar the SS recipients get, the food stamp people or the disability people including the lawyers, is one dollar that the Pentagon has to source elsewhere in order to kill innocent people on the other side of the planet and maintain hundreds of bases in other countries. The US Military would make the Roman Legion blush with shame at its viciousness.

Every soldier costs $1,000,000 a year to maintain. What's the top payoff for disability, 2K a month? Where does the money go? Into the general economy. For food, housing, cars, gas, insurance, yes, even booze and cigarettes, but somewhere someone in the US is probably producing and selling those items. In other words, very little of the money is going for destructive purposes, like what the Pentagon spends.

I'm beginning to come to the conclusion that there are really at least two different US governments; the one that handles Social Security and Disability and that nice lady that answers the phone when you call a government office. That's the one that pretends, or is, the US government that we pay taxes to sustain and pretend to vote for.

Then there's the other one that is hated and mistrusted, for good reason, all over the entire world.

The one that's hated and mistrusted? That one. It's mandated in the COTUS. The other one, including that nice lady in the DMV who can't be bothered to give you decent customer service but gets an overly generous government pension package my taxes are paying for ... that one. Yeah, it's nowhere in the COTUS.

Just sayin'

There are more people Now on disability in the US then there are people in Greece! Go figure.

That's why no one wants to work because they can get paid not to work! They are entitled to it, right?!

This is Barry O's plan from the beginning.

Socialism/communism is good. Remember Germany not too long ago.

Yes, Fraud is ramped and its been going on for a while,
and there are NO Leaders that have any Backbone to tell the truth and do anything about it!

That is an effing joke because the simple fact of SS,medicare, medicaid, foodstamps, and SSI,free homes, and other must haves.

More money is spent on social programs than the last decade of war or the entire defense budget.

Take a good damn hard look at social engineering programs.

It is nothing but corporate fascism.

Take from the haves give to the have nots all so they can go out and buy more 'stuff'.

Is there any GD reason this country is 17 trillion dollars in debt?

Rather obvious why.

Social Security Basic Facts (Printer Friendly Version)
July 26,2013

In 2013, almost 58 million Americans will receive $816 billion in Social Security benefits.

June 2013 Beneficiary Data
Retired workers 37 million $47.4 billion $1,269 average monthly benefit
dependents 2.9 million $ 1.8 billion
Disabled workers 8.9 million $ 10 billion $1,129 average monthly benefit
dependents 2.1 million $ .69 billion
Survivors 6.2 million $ 6.6 billion $1,221 average monthly benefit

U.S. Military Spending, $ Billions
In inflation-adjusted dollars, SIPRI's measure of U.S. military spending rose sharply after the terrorist attacks of 2001.
In calendar year 2012, military spending declined from $711 billion to $668 billion.
In dollar terms, this was the largest decline since 1991.
The reduction in U.S. operations in the Middle East and the sequester mean this figure is likely to fall again in 2013.

so... your statement about "total cost of war for a decade" is patently false. i couldnt find this years total us military spedning but...
the difference as we look at these figures, is only about 1-200 billion per year

i think your math is way out if you think military spending for 10 years is the same as one years social security.
but of course you knew that and were simply trying to garner support for your antisocialism bandwagon.

What did I say ?

WHAT ?

Oh I said this:

All of the above are social engineering programs that account for over 2.2 trillion dollars of current federal spending not counting defense.

Here take a read.

n 2010 alone, government at all levels oversaw a transfer of over $2.2 trillion in money, goods and services.

online.wsj.com...

That not good enough?

www.usdebtclock.org...

Social Security 800 billion dollars a year not counting interest.

So false ?

That is a real as it gets.

Not surprised but still saddened by this. I know people truly disabled who can not receive benefits for ludicrous reasons and then I know someone who is getting disability for essentially being illiterate but had family members get them a good (shady) lawyer.

The only good news I have heard from disability is the govt deciding to fast track certain diseases usually terminal cases. Unfortunately I am sure lawyers will find a way to game that as well. Next on their agenda is fast tracking people with schizophrenia and related illnesses. Will have to see what kind of cluster that turns into. The reasoning is that there should not be the need for multiple diagnosis and hearings for people with these illnesses but some people will gravitate towards "free" money.

Ah, did you not read the thread or story at the top Wookie?

He is talking about most of the people are Not really disabled and are committing Fraud(you can be arrested and put in prison for this) to fake their disabilities or minor injuries even though they are perfectly capable to work!

So now anyone that is working legally and paying taxes which now is less than 140million Americans (I forgot the number, someone can correct this figure) out of the 300 Million people living in America legally.

We are paying for the Frauds and the entitled generation created and expanded exponentially by the Imposter Barry S.

With the TV educated I want to clarify that before Obamacare, no hospital refused the injured or sick, and this has nothing to do about kicking people out of homeless shelters. Are all the disabled homeless? No!
So our great leaders trying to pass these unconstitutional laws scared all the ignorant uninformed sleeping population and people like Wookie continue to spew the same phrase like an automatic ticker tape machine.(EVERY TIME)

Never fails

They get 20% of two years back pay. Can be 4 to 20,000 all depends how much you made in the past. All they have to do is show up to one hearing and ask two questions. That's a heck of a profit for doing almost nothing. However the lawyers are not to blame they don't make or break the case no one needs one. The SSA denies everyone who applies for disability these days regardless of your condition. You will have to go through a year of red tape and then seen a SSA adjudication judge to get your disability.

So it's not easy. People get lawyers because they feel as though it will help when in fact they are just parasites stealing the applicants money. The judges are not stupid they require solid proof of disability however they are limited to reports by your Dr's or what they see in court. If you have a Dr that is lying the judge doesn't know that. So there may be one corrupt judge but the majority are not and make nothing from the case. The Dr's however make a lot from Medicare so there is incentive to get you on disability.

Yeah there is a scam going. This all started back in 2001 - 2003 when jobs started being slashed with the dot com bubble. People ran out of unemployment benefits and applied for disability and brought up any reason they could to defraud the government. I feel bad for the truly disabled because they already are suffering. When I was a kid a Dr could say you were disabled and you got disability. Right now ALL claims are denied. So there is no fraud being committed unless its with the judge or the Dr's.

They both should know better though and be severely punished (never have a license again) if they are caught.
