So let me ask......

According to you, those whom have a faith and are religious are bad? (your anti religious posts kinda prove it) What about those whom look to the government as being their religion???

We all have our own beliefs. Period!

The fact that a child died is definitely a sad thing for sure. But what is more disheartening to me, is that as your seem to "religiously" put your trust in the government to make your decisions for you, why is it that you are against those whom would rather put their faith and trust in a deity that gives them the same kind of faith as the government gives you?

Do you know the meaning of freedom? I am all for a bad parent going to prison for not taking care of their child. But what about a child whom dies due to being given a "bad drug" from a pharmaceutical company?? Are you going to deny that this ever happens? Yet our government has given pharmaceutical companies a get out of jail free card for putting bad drugs on the market! Whom is MORE guilty? A parent whom is cautious or a government whom flat out gives immunity to a corporation whom produces a dangerous product?

Yet, you expect your faith in the government and corporations is more righteous than those whom have faith in a deity?

Seriously, I think you have a lot to bring to the table, but bashing someone's faith when backing a faith of your own based upon the rule of man, which is based on control and greed is just as ridiculous to me as those whom believe in a God they have never seen.......

I mean, come on dude/gal, you have posted three OP's in the last 3 hours and every one of them have an anti religious tone????? I can understand if you have had some bad experiences with a church or religion, because I most definitely have had some myself and no longer believe in God as Christianity preaches it. But I sure as hell DO NOT trust the STATE to dictate laws based upon them selling out to the military/industrial complex either!

Freedom means allowing other people to be free, just as much as you want other people to allow you to be free as well....

All the rhetoric about freedom looks great in print, but one rather important freedom I didn't see you address was the child's freedom to live. You seem to be going on about the freedoms the mother should have had and to an extent I do agree but the line is crossed when her freedoms began to impose on the child's. Her right to make mistakes does not ever outweigh her child's right to live a long and hopefully, happy life. He doesn't even have the opportunity to have a crappy life now. It may seem to be armchair quarterbacking after the fact but it doesn't change the fact that her child is dead and so are all his freedoms because she didn't know when she was in over her head. I don't know if her motivations were religious based or not and I really don't care. What she did was egregious and beyond irresponsible and nothing that happens now will ever change that.

They are trying to go after alternative health rememdies and out law them, so you just have them and GMO.

Don''t believe this case, seems like something they would do.

Most parents DO BOTH, if they can afford it, you know lots have lost their plans, don't know when that kicks in.

There are plenty of people on this very board who are anything but religious and wouldn't have taken their child to have any of the doctor's poison put into his body. They just don't trust big pharma.

I know of at least one acquaintance who is crunchy granola and fervently believes in all homeopathy and would almost rather die than use pharmaceuticals.

Just because this mother doesn't believe in anitbiotics doesn't mean it was because she was religious. She might have been, but she also could have had any one of a number of other beliefs, including being a firm believer in conspiracies for crying out loud.

Maybe I missed it but I didn't see how old the child was. Young children can go downhill healthwise VERY quickly. She may have thought she had the illness well in hand (and outward appearances may have supported that conclusion) but with small children, they can go from playing in the living room, laughing to seizing in 0.5 seconds. I've seen it.

Looking at the report on the link provided in the OP it seems that the mother is at the very least culpable in her 7 year-old's death.
And it seems, quite correctly, that she is to be charged.

When a kid is that sick for that long, the wise thing to do is to take them in for treatment. I'm no fan of Big Pharma, but if my kids were as sick as hers was, they'd be in an office or ER in no time.

That said, there's also no guarantee that antibiotics will do a damn thing, there hasn't been one for years now. I repeatedly battled strep throat over and over again for a few years in my middle school years, until my immune system decided "F you, little girl, have some CFS/ME instead." Of the various antibiotics I was prescribed, none of them ever worked, my immune system had to tough it out. Talk about miserable, top strep with a wrecked digestive system bug balance. Ugh. Strep & antibiotic trots are a special kind of torture.
I never ended up hospitalized, but came damn close a few times. It was the opinion of several different doctors & specialists that a particularly nasty bout of strep triggered CFS/ME in conjunction with one hell of a stressed out immune system. It's funny, though. I haven't has strep since. It's like trading one hellish experience for another.

My point? Don't be an idiot, get the very ill to a doctor, but don't bank on antibiotics actually working.

The one BIG difference with medical treatment is that in MOST cases it WILL work and can be proven to work. There are also fall-backs if the standard regime fails.

Homeopathy has not been proven to work for anything but since it doesn't have any method of action then that's hardly surprising.

I think people will try to use this to make statements about the validity of holistic healing. obviously her method didn't work but that does not mean that holistic medicine Isn't real it just means that this lady didn't know what she was doing.

(or maybe she did it to her son on purpose)

Western medicine has had far more than its fair share of criminal negligence and deaths from clinical in-efficiancy.

This reminds me of that Aqua Teen Hunger Force episode:

Frylock: "Maybe I should bring you some penicillin, Meatwad. Or at least take you to the doctor to get it looked at."

Master Shake: "We don't need your black magic from your witch doctor in the city."

Ancient Chinese saying Man who came up with holistic medicine goes to real doctor.

Why did the U.S. Senate unwittingly endorse 1950s Chinese Communist Party propaganda?

I have read far too many articles on holistic medicine to ever trust in that junk stuff. Many of them that you but are not even made with safe materials. Sure you can believe she didn’t use them right all 7 of them I guess it could happen. Maybe she didn’t wave her crystals 20 times in the air over her head and only did it 19 times. I do know a penicillin shot could have saved the kid though.

Even Ghandi, who was against the use of most western medicine, opted to be administered penicillin when gravely ill despite refusing it to be administered to his wife which lead to her death shortly thereafter.
