HE'S OFF TO JAIL .... A former Kansas City police officer was convicted of third-degree assault when he admitted repeatedly striking a restrained suspect in the face and head with his fist during an arrest on Oct. 5, 2013.

According to court documents, Carl Counti, 39, and Sgt. Lemoine attempted to arrest a man suspected in an armed carjacking in the area of 24th Street and Cypress in Kansas City, Mo. The suspect in the carjacking — later named the victim in the assault case — Alfredo Ponce, 21, resisted arrest. Counti was charged with third-degree assault for punching Ponce in the face and/or head area nine to 10 times during the struggle to apprehend him.

I'm just glad this idiot of a cop, and a very sorry excuse for a man, had the nerve and common sense to admit what he had done to the victim.

Of course, he had to admit it since it was recorded.

Oh my god, the anger that swells inside of me when people use their authority to just hurt someone is barely contained!

I am sorry but cops have to deal with trash thugs all the time and it has to be hard to restrain yourself. This piece of crap criminal should have gotten worse. He will be back out on the streets commiting more crime before we know it. Maybe criminals might think twice when they know they are going to get their ass beat for being a pos thug. Now cops who do this to innocent or non violent people, that is wrong yes.

I am glad that the Kansas City Police Department charged the officer (ex-officer I should say) with assault... they stood up and took care of crime, no matter where it was found.

I hope more police departments follow in the footsteps of Kansas City when it comes to charging "their own"...

At least we have a good example in Kansas City! Crime is not tolerated by anyone!

How much more non-violent can you get in handcuffs? A crime was committed and he was apprehended... it didn't need more, he doesn't need beat up while unable to defend himself... he needed a trial and a jail/prison sentence... that is the punishment... not getting beat up in handcuffs, that is abuse of a defenseless person...

Some people don't seem to realize when they cheer on abuse of authority for others, they are cheering it on for themselves too... You never know when you might be on the receiving end, and when we say its ok for some we are okaying it for everyone.

I will never cheer on abuse of authority, they have rules to abide... that is what they are supposed to be doing, protecting people... not causing harm.

That is always the case. The cops have a right to protect themselves. Well 7 cops beating a handcuffed prisoner to death is not protecting themselves, it's murder. But in Cincinnati Ohio it's "protecting themselves".

Black people are genetically bigger and teens should be treated as adults and give adult sentences.

So in your story the 7 officers beating up a restrained "thug" is justified action, it brings equilibrium.

Glossary: Thug: aka a random Black person, who is most likely to be criminal anyway.

We as a country need to treat our violent car jackers with more respect and dignity. When they resist arrest and scream incoherently while trying to fight off multiple police they just need a hug. If the car owner had just given up his car and not snitched to the police none of this would have happened.

Also, the first thing the suspect did when approached by the cops was take a swing at an officer and flee. While resisting arrest this idiot actually said " you're going to have to hit me."

About time a cop was charged (err hopefully arrested) for this! I hope this becomes the new trend, and to further it, I hope one day cops will no longer be allowed to get away with everything cause their buddies all cover for each other.

The cop in the video was acting pretty typical to what we see on here all the time. The guy was clearly cuffed and on the ground, face down. Why cops feel the need keep going pouncing and punching after the fact is beyond me. I don't care how "frustrated" cops get, they need to maintain professionalism, we pay their salaries after all.

Whoa...... step back and take a breath!

Lets put the aggression away and confrontations with this language and attitude - ATS does not allow.

Of course someone was to say something like that to my face....... I have seen people beaten to a pulp for less.

Back in the day when we had vigilantism, crime was not as bad.. Why worry about jail when you have to worry about the towns people getting justice? 90% of the people shooting at cops are of the thug mentality. They want war against us and the law, bring it. How would you feel if all of your fallen officers are killed by these thugs? They declared war and they shall get it back.
Statistics show that most of these violent thugs have at least 17+ prior felony convictions. If it were up to me, id cuff them, run their record, if they fall in that category of being habitual offenders, put them on their knees, cuffed, and one to the back of the head. I wouldn't even bury them just throw them on the side of the road in a ditch. I bet anything crime would drop like a rock overnight.

Yes we have prisons. And as you can see, prison does not phase most of them because when they are let out they continue to do the same thing over and over.. What was that saying? "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results" ? Jailing them does not work. Eradicating them would. I am sick of hearing how some old couple gets murdered in their home or a cop gets killed by a guy who has been in jail 57385738 times and let back out. If they fit the criteria, shoot on site just like they would a wounded deer on the road.

My stance may not be politically correct but it is 100% right.

Yeah, that's kind of what I said in the end of my post, that what cops have to deal with over and over again is too much for the psyche.

I know that there are situations that, if I were a cop, I'd be fired too because I'd lose it over someone hurting a child.

Really? You want the cops to be the Judges from 2000 AD, just dispensing with 'justice'?

Wow, they got that sorta 'justice' in the Middle East. Works out well of the citizens there, don't you think?

Actually, all studies and real world examples have shown that mentality increases crime, even three strikes laws do this for the same reason. If a criminal knows their apprehension is going to result in a lifetime sentence or death, they will fight. If this carjackers penalty was death, he wouldn't have been taken down with fists. There would have been bodybags, probably several. He would have involved any civilian he could to hinder the police and he would have shot at the police intending to kill them. He would literally have been fighting for his life.

Your response is the worst possible "solution".
