GCHQ Ad on ATS

Just saw a GCHQ advertisement pop up on ATS.


Oh the Irony right.

I don't know what GCHQ is. Could you elaborate?

The only thing that keeps popping up for me is that survey thing. Annoying as it floats across the screen.

GCHQ stands for Government Communications Head Quarters.

Basically it is Britain's electronic listening post, and along with MI5 and MI6, is part of the UK's defences against terrorist and military threats, from both within the nation, and outside its borders. It is the head quarters for something called SIGINT, or Her Majesty's Government's Signal Intelligence. This is a section of the UK intelligence network that started after World War One, being comprised of segments of the old COMINT units of the Navy, Airforce and Army.

They had some recruitment drive where people had to break a code.
