East Coast Internet Traffic Is Restored
Level 3 Repairs Outage Caused by Failure at Network Hub

Updated Oct. 20, 2013 4:38 p.m. ET

Level 3 Communications Inc. said it fixed an Internet-service outage that left users from Brooklyn to Philadelphia with slow to nonexistent service for nearly 24 hours Saturday after equipment at a New York-area network hub broke down.

A spokesman for the Internet-service provider said Sunday that technicians worked quickly to resolve the outage, which cascaded down to customers using Cablevision Systems Corp.'s CVC -0.45% Optimum service and Time Warner Cable Inc., TWC -0.36% among others.

"Maintaining a high-performing, efficient network for customers is our top priority," Level 3 spokesman Jon Paul McLeary said. The outage started after a heavily trafficked fiber-optic switch failed, according to several customers informed of the problem.

Intriguing, reference to a SWITCH, customers were told 'failed'. And a network hub breaking down, according to L3C's story. Wonder which one it is? Likely what the customers were told. Except a switch is more often turned off, than broken. Afterall, it's a switch for a reason.

Actually the wiki article states " network switch or switching hub"

I'm not sure where your logic concludes switch = hub.

Many controlled *Tests* are being implemented at accelerated rates.

These tests are not for equipment diagnostics.

They are measuring human anxiety, vulnerability and panic levels.

The DHS Domestic Threat Analysis Division is the likely culprit.

It could just be an actual hardware failure....I'm not a fan of this administration by a long shot, but we really don't need to see snipers behind *every* bush...that they're behind every other one is bad enough now.
