South Korean Ship Accident In Japan

The South Korean cargoship "Marine Osaka" crashed and broke in two pieces in Japan. 6 crew members died and one is missing. There were strong winds and high waves when it happened, making the rescue operation difficult. 9 surviving crew members had all been injured but there are no details of their condition. The nationalities of those who died are not yet known.

Six crew members of a South Korean cargo ship died after strong winds and high waves sent the vessel at anchor into a breakwater in a port in Ishikari Bay, Hokkaido, predawn on Saturday, local rescue authorities said.

There were eight South Korean and eight Myanmar crew members on board the 5,500-ton Marine Osaka when the incident occurred at 1:55 a.m. The freighter cracked down the middle. (Kyodo News)
