Would Assad's Best Option be to Attack First?

So what would YOU do if you were Assad, and knew you were about to be obliterated? Would you go down like Saddam or Libya?

I don't know, but it seems to me that if I had access to sunburns, and possibly help from Iran, and knowing that I was going to die anyway, I wouldn't just sit there and take it. Not without inflicting maximum damage first. And not after knowing what happened to all the other regimes that have fallen to Big Oil.

Weapons do you no good after they are destroyed. And I mean he knows it's coming. With Putin not Putin his foot down, and left you to defend yourself, after you extended him a port and spent millions buying weapons from him, I mean- what else could you do?

I don't know. But if it was me, and I was about to be destroyed, I'd at least make it cost them as dearly as I could. And I would do it BEFORE I was obliterated, and my forces crippled. Why wait. Why? I see no good at all coming from that option. Just death.

If Assad attacks Israel it's game over, in comes Iran etcetcetc

Really?? Knowing that at least one if not more, of those cruise missiles is heading directly at you personally? Taking the hit means getting killed in his case. I just don't understand that opinion.

Assad would has to fire everything at Israel, in an attempt to bring all Arab together, it would be his only option to get out of this alive. While the whole world is in war, you just have to try to squeeze through cracks and hide out for the rest of your life.

Attack who, with what? Relatively speaking, Syria is a very poor country with no real military to speak of.

They obviously have enough small arms to hold out against a foreign led overthrow of their government but thats about it.

Not to mention, that the only aggressor nation within their reach is the US, simply because they have a zillion bases in the ME.

And then theres izrael, which isnt a part of NATO but does influence US foreign policy.

Its crazy if you think about it, that a nation (the US) just goes around the World attacking sovereign countries.

The only nation which could actually do anything is Russia. What are they going to do, nuke the US over Syria?

What the World should do is impose sanctions on the US and dump the dollar. It would cripple the US overnight.

Its long overdue.

The only sucky part is that I live here.

this is what Obama wants. If assad attacked first, Obama would go on national TV and start the rally cry like all other POTUS have done before him.

But his immediate problem is not Israel. His immediate problem is the US Fifth Fleet, along with a few other nasty ships from the UK. I mean I see where you're going with that, but I don't see how even that is going to get him out alive. There is just no time.

I agree 100% and if there were any way I could make the idea fly I damned well would!!! The scary part is as you said, you're American yourself...Imagine what ill thoughts people who are not American but unfortunate enough to be victim to its policies must be having. I have to relax...This whole mess is pushing my blood pressure through the roof! @TA...Yes, I would light the whole box of fireworks right about now if I were Assad!

As another poster mention earlier, Assad has Russian weapons at his disposal he could use. These Russian weapons can be use to inflict damage on Israel and rally radical to fight on Assad team. Israel will have response aggressively if any chemical warfare goes into their side of the border, which could mean the end of the world!!

Well I mean crap. If they framed me for supposedly using chemical weapons, when I didn't, then how about... Screw it! Time to use chemical weapons! And whatever else I've got. And the whole time I'd be on the phone with Putin, giving him a piece of my mind. Some ally.

He has no 'best option'. Syria is to be the battleground for WWIII. Everyone around the world is involved. Syria. Russia. China. USA. France. UK. Saudi Arabia. Egypt. Iran. Muslim Brotherhood. Etc etc. There is no 'best option' ... it's all going to blow up ..... and it's going to be a mess no matter what he does.

Assad's regime is in for the fight of its life, quite literally. If they lose it means their death and they have so far shown no restraint against the rebels.I think the West has been so reluctant to really intervene because victory for either side is in doubt and no one really wants the victorious party to come out very strong. If it were me, I'd aid whoever I needed to to make sure anyone's victory would be a Pyrrhic one.

I think if there is a US/Nato attack, it will be narrowly targeted against the all parties WMD's capabilities and go no further.

If he does retaliate it would mean a very quick end for him. Assad's best bet is to sit back and take it hoping his Russian and Chinese buddies will put some nonmilitary pressure on Nato to make it as weak a response as possible.

Weighting both options I think it would be wise for Assad not to attack first and he knows this. But Obomber wants him to attack, so he can go all out and have the full support of his "people" plus gain credit and seem like the good guy.

The prophecies are being unfolded...and the next couple of months is going to be interesting to witness....

I have too much apathy towards praying for the many innocent lives that are going to be taken away, inevitably...according to their plan. May god help us all.

Sounds logical to me.

Assad can not trust his own military. The Iranians, Hezbollah, Lebanese militias have taken up the bulk of his fighting because his own military is just looking for chances to change sides. Not to mention Syria has does not have the ability to find the fleet much less strike it. Assads best hope is it is a quick strike as a warnnig not use Chemical weapons again. He knows the West has been dragging their feet for years about getting involved in Syria despite being handed several excuses to do so. Depending on the severity of the strikes he can even keep the options of using Chemical weapons again if when all is said and done Western strikes are not to destructive. Assad needs to keep every asset he has to hold off the rebels who no doubt will finally be seeing some real outside aid. Sending what little you have on a suicide mission would not only be stupid but, sure sign to your followers that you are desperate and weak.

Yeah well a lot of that might depend on just how far Putin might go covertly. While presenting a public facade of "hands off," he still could provide Syria with satellite intelligence as to NATO fleet and ground positions. And also, so might Iran. Lord only knows what the hell is taking place behind the scenes right now. Even all the way to a shocking headline:

"Russia shocks the world and destroys most of the US fleet with nuclear weapons!!! - Threatens more if the US continues its meddling in its interests"

After all, their methodology has long been known to not invest much more in conventional weaponry. Just nuke em and be done with it. If that happened, I would not be all that surprised.

Assad needs to fake his own suicide (burn some body in his bunker or something), go to Thailand and get serious plastic surgery on the cheap.

He really doesn't have any options...I say to Thailand for sexual reassignment!
