The truth ?

That is something the Rabid Right wouldn't recognize if it was wearing a pink tutu and singing " I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts" at the top of its lungs.

Did Reagan use those phones to spy on people, or preside of the largest SPYING programs on Americans,.

And that is on topic with the OP because.........

And that program was expanded massively under the current Potus,

Nope. It was ratified by Clinton and expanded by Bush jr.

but who cares about the truth?

Obviously not the Rabid Right.

Right ?

Nope. As usual you are wrong.

Tell me is Obama responsible for ANYTHING WHAT SO EVER HE DOES ?

Absolutely.

But only, however, for the things he has actually done. Not the made up rubbish spewed by the Conservative Entertainment Complex.

When will you start to understand. The likes of WND, Breitbart, Fox, etc do not want anyone but a Democrat in the White House.

They make far to much money while in opposition.

www2.ed.gov...

This initiative could go a long way towards raising America's education scores, compared to other countries. I especially like the fact that Obama is working with the FCC to do this with already approved funds. No new taxes - that's GREAT!!

I would never say that improving technology is a bad thing especially in schools (as long as students check their smartphones at the door. That said:

I suppose we could ask the Supreme Court to rule on this -->>>

It's a TAX! - It's a FEE! - No wait let's compromise, it's a Penalty!
Call it what you want, it's a Penalty/Fee/Tax/Whatever Obama is trying to screw us out of 10 more bucks. Not saying congress has clean hands but this one is on big O.

Well let's list all the things "He" has 'actually done' that has impacted the majority of Americans in positive ways.

I'll start the list:

That is a good one my friend, now as for the actual list of how he is impacting the people and the nation in bad ways with all the ramifications you will not be able to get all of them in one page.

Don't you mean Reagan Phone?

The idea of providing low-income individuals with subsidized phone service was originated in the Reagan administration following the break-up of AT&T in 1984.

And as to the Taxpayer....

The program is paid for by telecommunications companies through an independent non-profit, not through tax revenue.

The Truth About The Obama Phone

No cell phones were NEVER included until 2008 under president obama. And the cost is through a phone service "surcharge". Adding in cell phones to the land line only plan increased the cost from 143 million to 2.2 billion dollars. So the surplus this program originally had is now a deficit. Nearly 300,000 of obamaphone users have 2 phones to boot.

That common goal of universal service became a goal of universal access to service when Congress passed The Telecommunications Act of 1934.

This informal practice was codified when the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) was created as part of the 1996 Telecommunications Act to "ensure all Americans, including low-income consumers and those who live in rural, insular, high cost areas, shall have affordable service and [to] help to connect eligible schools, libraries, and rural health care providers to the global telecommunications network."

This specific program, SafeLink, started under President George Bush, with grants from an independent company created under President Bill Clinton, which was a legacy of an act passed under President Franklin Roosevelt, which was influenced by an agreement reached between telecommunications companies and the administration of President Woodrow Wilson.

The Obama Phone?

Of course, with the Wilson phone, one had to carry around a huge spool of wire.

Bush was president in 2008. So, I guess you should be referring to them as Bush phones.

I will make you a deal. Turn this program back to land lines and monitor it properly for abuse like in the past, and I will call them Regan phones. The idea is not a bad one actually. But a land line is plenty and Obama making it a free for all with cell phones is downright awful.

This Lifeline abuse will add on cost to Obama's new tax and spend program.

Whatever party the next guy is from, can we please elect someone who understands the Presidency is a team player position, and leading is about finding ways to work with everyone else and not undermine/circumvent them better?

Really... This King stuff is getting exceptionally tiresome. It was amusing in a 'he's gotta be kidding' kinda way at first. Now that Congress has apparently become spineless though? It's really not the least bit funny now. Whatever may technically allow this? Please...Not another President that makes the whole term about finding loopholes or making new ones.

And for another valid point?

The economy is in the tolilet right now. The Obamacare disaster could very well push this country into a deep depression, and Obama wants to spend spend spend...

Who here feels that having over $10 in " fees" on your cell phone service is way too much. And they want to add more? And also, who will feel the brunt of these regressive taxes or "fees" as some are inclined to call them? The working poor! To me, six dollars is nothing. To some, this could mean feeding their family dinner for one day. Oh it's just one meal, they can do without...

And don't be foolish, once something starts, it will go up in price every year. Two or three years they say? Does anything in governemnt ever go away?

So who will pay for the Obamaphone folks share? Oh yeah the taxpayer....

I wonder what types of things contributed to Obama's very low economic approval rate? Taps fingers...

So you are against spending money that already exists for student? I bet you complain about the public school system also something that this has a potential of helping.

And the same people are paying for the Obamaphones are the same people who paid for them when Bush started the program.

Nobody wants to work together in DC. Remember people paid a lot of money to get their tools into office.

[snip]

Now back to this thing about phone fees/taxes or whatever the hell everyone finally decides it is.

It's $10/year. That's less than $1 a month. That won't even buy me a candy bar, and will help put wifi in schools that don't have it. Wow, are people so greedy that they don't want to part with 83 cents a month to help give our kids a better learning environment? We all know the USA isn't even in the top 10 for education anymore.

SMH. Go outside, collect 10 soda cans (or 3 a week) and there you go.

Actually it was 2009, it looks like Elouina made a typo. Next time don't trust everything you read without checking yourself.

Obamaphones will put the burden of their share of the "fees" on the taxpayer, in addition to the taxpayers own share of this new "fee".

GAO United States Government Accountability Office Report to Congressional Requesters

The Addition of Prepaid Wireless as an Eligible Service Was the Primary Factor to Increased Participation and Payments in 2009

The increases in 2009 were primarily due to the addition of a prepaid wireless service option in certain states, which allows program participants to obtain a free wireless handset and an allotment of free minutes each month.

The state and local levels already have this covered for the overall majority. ( And this is where these types of programs belong.) It is up to the taxpayers in those states to initiate such programs. This is not something that should be handled at the federal level, nor by the president. Have you all forotten what the functions of the federal governemnt are supposed to be?
