There happens to be a training facility behind my house and last week, there was some activity going on.
I have personal reasons to express the point that these emergency personnel go through some rigorous training to have the ability it takes when they are called upon.

This has to be some of the hardest training I've seen.
You would not get me to do this

So, next time you call 911 in need of the fire department or due to a relative missing on a hike or other emergency,
Keep in mind what these men and women go through before they are ready to come and rescue you or fight a natural disaster and such so that you and I can survive these situations.

As a Paramedic I can tell you that the training is extensive. 2 years of Paramedic school, 6 months of Emergency Rescue School. 30 days defensive driving course, and an assortment of other training. I have been a Paramedic for over 20 years, and am still in training. I can remember a time when most small and medium size towns only offered basic EMT services. Now it seems that all use Paramedic.
Anyway good thread, and thank you...

I must be older than you. I remember when it was only ambulances. No EMT, no paramedics. No trauma centers. No LifeFlight helos. Just load you up and hopefully you got to the hospital in time to do any good!
