Saudi Activist Receives 7-year Sentence, 600 lashes for Insulting Islam

Another glaring example of how religion destroys lives and this civilization as a whole! Pathetic that so many people cant think for themselves and then crap like this happens.

If you get that harsh a penalty for insulting a religion, I hate to imagine what happens when they get caught doing an actual crime. It's terrible that things like this happen in this day and age. Granted, Saudi Arabia will eventually get rid of these primitive laws and finally come into the 21st century, the question however is when?

I don't by any shape or means agree with the punishment this person is receiving, although it could be argued that he should have known he was not doing himself any favours, but that isn't the point I wanted to make -

The death penalty is the death penalty. Sharp sword against the neck you would hope would be a swift end. Many western countries have and practice the death penalty which they carry out by other means - does that make them less backwards?

Well, assuming you're in a Christian country, how would you feel if these western countries used the death penalty for someone stating that other religions were equal to Christianity rather than reserving the ultimate punishment for mass murderers and serial killers? There is a world of difference between them.

Saudi Arabia is in the dark ages.
