You are so right - the only way out is personal responsibility.
Excellent post on Open Mesh drawbacks.

I use Startpage. You have do to something a little different on every browser. They warn you when you are going to leave their 'protection' withing the search results and their archived pages are very limited with photos and formatting, but maybe it's me, a relatively new user.

I am looking forward to Startpage email - Startmail - when it comes out.
