But for this US - UK thing on handguns....we think we got it right (with a few tweaks) and so do you (with a few tweaks) ...lets just agree that what works over here wouldn't work over there as theres too much of a cultural shift to suddenly just say "free handgun with 100 tokens from weetabix, send in 200 and get 5000 rounds of ammo"

First of all, freedom works everywhere its tried.

Secondly, there are hundreds of gun laws in US. There are no gun giveaways without background check and compliance with law.

Your country's fear is two fold: 1) Fear of your fellow countryman, and 2) Complete misunderstanding of responsible gun culture.

For the first, shame on you.

For the second, shame on those whose came before you.

See again your acting arrogant and trying to dictate to us.

Please stop before it becomes a flame war again.

Fine ok you dont like our gun laws or the fact we lack a gun culture. But your not liveing here nor is anyone forceing you (though I would recomend a vist).

Its just not our culture you just have to get that. Gun culture is just not part of the UK.

Also the ability of owning Handguns is not the be all and end all of Freedom.
If you think it is...well that is just sad.
Why not accept that the UK public do not want Handguns? you lot are fine to own them but here we do not want it....

You should take your own advice.

You let Governments take away many of your freedoms since 9/11...what did you do? nadda..nothing.

How do you know that? You think those things happened as a result of me doing nothing??

I'm not going to explain the sacrifices I've made for my country but they're numerous and continuous.

Meh...

It is obvious from threads and posts of yours you have something against the people of the UK...jealous much?
Obviously you haven't read my threads and posts. If so, your reading comprehension is severely lacking. Try again and read slower.

No one took our freedom to carry handguns...the public wanted it, big difference.
If we had a referendum about this subject we would vote for no handguns time and time again, why not just accept it and move on eh?.

You're right, sheep. You voted for it for the same reason many of my countrymen supported Patriot Act and NDAA; you're all Kool Aid drinkers who are willing to sacrifice freedom for the HOPE of achieving security and peace.

That crap isn't working out so well for either of us, is it??? You should be warning me because you're farther neutered than any Americans.

It got us out from under British rule, did it not?

What level of arrogance does it take to speak for the entirety of the UK population as you continue to do?? One of your neighbors wants that right. Who are you to tell him you know better??

You might be right.

Then again I see the UK's "culture", as one that mimics the US in many ways. You may be surprised at how similar we really are when it comes to guns also. There are many that want them back. Criminals? They will have guns regardless if you have one or want them to have one.

Name calling..nice.

We as a society said enough is enough we do not want handguns...It was after Dunblane where the guy killed 17 kids and teachers at a school.
Many people campaigned to ban handguns, Just because your own society wants handguns It doesn't mean that we in the UK want them.
Why can you not understand this? we are not saying take your right away, you can keep em but to make a thread which is so obviously BS is way below your usual standards.
You try and paint the UK as a violent place where we are all scared of criminals and it is just so far from the truth...just like a Brit saying the USA is like the wild west.

Well the French kinda did that. Before they entered the war and landed troops the war was JUST going in our direction.

But what about the rights of the majority that dont want them? The UK is a democracy not a republic. End of.

Give me a break!

Do tell, using your interpretation of history, what did the French use to kick your arse? Was it bow and arrow, swords, knives, stones etc?

**Edit to add** My brothers in 2nd Battalion 5th & 6th Marines took Belleau Wood, Aisne, Toulon-Troyon, Château-Thierry, Marbache and Limey in 1917-18 in defense of the French and to this day wear the French Fourragère.

Didn't kick any of our arses....they kicked peoples arses who died many years ago.
Please just stop this anti UK thing, this we are better than you because we have "FREEDOM" (in my braveheart voice) and handguns.
You started the thread based on a BS poll, reading through the thread you can see that we just do not want handguns and this is from the UK members of ATS, so just accept it and stop trying to make the thread into my willy is bigger than yours.

Then stop telling me in your elitist vice how dumb we Americans are. I give what I receive.

Again, you don’t speak for all those in the UK…Actually you do SPEAK FOR THEM, but many UK citizens don’t like it. Those who want rights are subdued by you and your ilk…so don’t talk about freedom when you partake in oppression, monkeyboy.

Like someone else said we live in a democracy the majority of people here do not want handguns, do we go against this? just to give people the illusion of being free?
Oh and you really have a chip on your shoulder If you think Iam being elitist...come live over here and see that we just do not need handguns.
Remember we are talking handguns here not guns (which we can get legally easy).
Also just because we do not have handguns doesn't mean we are neutered, we have a long history as a people saying enough is enough and doing away with our Governments and rulers....but at this moment in time I do not feel the need to do away with them. (scales are tipping though)

We owe our existence to A LOT of people. We owe our continued freedom to A LOT of people. Freedom isn’t free and, unlike many in UK, we haven’t given up the means of repeating a revolution should the need arise.

You’re right…direct democracy rules.

I feel for you when the mob rules against something dear to you. In this case, I guess you can't miss what you never had!

I don’t want to live there for many reasons…mainly because you don’t value freedom…secondly because your violent crime rate is WAY TOO HIGH!

Civilized people don’t shoot each other over a bar argument.

What the hell is wrong with you people??

You DO value freedom….as long as YOU agree with it….collectively. Got it!

Yes Iam part of society in the UK, One which saved my life as a child without any financial burden on my parents, I owe the UK that and I will back up living in a society which helps take care of it's citizens.
That doesn't mean I will bend over and take stuff If I do not agree with it, I will fight for people rights but I will not fight over the right to own a handgun when they have no place in our society.
To have a successful society there has to be rules made by people elected to govern over us. True freedom is not happening anywhere in the world.
I just fail to see how owning a handgun makes the UK a better place to live. The USA is very different from the UK but it doesn't mean either is better than the other...we are just different.
Accept this....

My last point is to do with the death penalty and you will see polls in the UK especially after a high profile child killer is caught the polls say 87% wish to bring back hanging but that poll is not accurate because peoples rage takes over when they are angry.
Anyhow you can bleat all you like, we are not going to allow anyone to own a handgun.
Do you work for Smith and Wesson btw

Anyhow Iam out going around in circles.

AHHHHH…..like the loyalty any lad has to his nanny!

Thanks for clearing that up!

We already knew your affiliation and where your loyalty lies based upon your obvious disdain for the freedom of your neighbors!

Agree to disagree, the majority in the UK do not want handguns (Notice HANDguns because we can get rifles, shotguns etc).
Another thing is If we did allow anyone to have handguns we would have to arm our police force, which the police do not want nor do I.
