But for this US - UK thing on handguns....we think we got it right (with a few tweaks) and so do you (with a few tweaks) ...lets just agree that what works over here wouldn't work over there as theres too much of a cultural shift to suddenly just say "free handgun with 100 tokens from weetabix, send in 200 and get 5000 rounds of ammo"

First of all, freedom works everywhere its tried.
Secondly, there are hundreds of gun laws in US. There are no gun giveaways without background check and compliance with law.
Your country's fear is two fold: 1) Fear of your fellow countryman and, 2) Complete misunderstanding of responsible gun culture.
For the first, shame on you.
For the second, shame on those whose came before you.

You should take your own advice.
You let Governments take away many of your freedoms since 9/11...what did you do? nadda..nothing.
Obviously you haven't read my threads and posts. If so, your reading comprehension is severely lacking. Try again and read slower.
It is obvious from threads and posts of yours you have something against the people of the UK...jealous much?
No one took our freedom to carry handguns...the public wanted it, big difference.
If we had a referendum about this subject we would vote for no handguns time and time again, why not just accept it and move on eh?.
Also the ability of owning Handguns is not the be all and end all of Freedom.
If you think it is...well that is just sad.
What level of arrogance does it take to speak for the entirety of the UK population as you continue to do?? One of your neighbors wants that right. Who are you to tell him you know better??
Why not accept that the UK public do not want Handguns? you lot are fine to own them but here we do not want it....

Well the French kinda did that. Before they entered the war and landed troops the war was JUST going in our direction.
Didn't kick any of our arses....they kicked peoples arses who died many years ago.
Please just stop this anti UK thing, this we are better than you because we have "FREEDOM" (in my braveheart voice) and handguns.
You started the thread based on a BS poll, reading through the thread you can see that we just do not want handguns and this is from the UK members of ATS, so just accept it and stop trying to make the thread into my willy is bigger than yours.

Give me a break!
Do tell, using your interpretation of history, what did the French use to kick your arse? Was it bow and arrow, swords, knives, stones etc?
Bayonets
We owe our existence to A LOT of people. We owe our continued freedom to A LOT of people. Freedom isn’t free and, unlike many in UK, we haven’t given up the means of repeating a revolution should the need arise.
Ok guns were involved on both sides. But you still owe your existance to french involvement.
Like someone else said we live in a democracy the majority of people here do not want handguns, do we go against this? just to give people the illusion of being free?
Oh and you really have a chip on your shoulder If you think Iam being elitist...come live over here and see that we just do not need handguns. Remember we are talking handguns here not guns (which we can get legally easy).
A few lads having a punch up on a friday night. You really that scared of that?
Oh and we do value freedom, freedom of speech is the most important. The pen is mightier than the sword.
Yes Iam part of society in the UK, One which saved my life as a child without any financial burden on my parents, I owe the UK that and I will back up living in a society which helps take care of it's citizens.
