Your dream made my stomach turn. I visualized and felt everything you detailed. I'm sorry you went through all of that. What a tragic event to
witness, even if only a dream, it was very powerful and descriptive.
It really sucks having those types of dreams - feeling helpless to the victims, feeling panicked even upon waking. I bet you can still see the
shooter's face, can't you? You're probably wondering if an event similar to your dream will soon unfold? Will it happen in your own neighborhood? Were
you shown something? (precognitive dream)
If so, what in the hell are you supposed to do about it, lol ? Share it with a bunch of people who'll make you feel silly? Dreams are what brought me
to ATS and I'm glad you shared. I encourage everyone here to do the same, without the fear of ridicule, should they feel inclined to do so.
I'm glad you aren't bombarded with these dreams very often. They can take a heavy toll. Hopefully someone here can help you with interpreting the
meaning behind them, if there is any. I can't find the meaning behind my own dreams let alone anyone else's. What I have learned to do is control them
in such a way, particularly with my "doom porn" dreams.
I get these "water wall" or tsunami dreams every so often, they are quite terrifying as well because usually my children are in them. While I can't
stop the water from coming, I give myself a mental warning that allows us to escape. I started doing this dream controlling thing after too many
nightmares of dying with my children in a wall of water.
While reading your OP, I had hoped you were also going to eventually gain this mental control and miraculously defeat your shooter. I think you tried
VERY hard and the failure to save the victims in your dream devastated you, naturally. This feeling most likely lingered a while.
I'm not sure how I learned to control my dreams, but if you want to learn the process, I'm sure it's not that difficult. I'm currently helping my
daughter who struggled with night terrors, sleep walking, sleep paralysis... all kinds of weird crap since she was a toddler. Now she only has the
occasional freaky dream, we're getting there lol
it's a process.
