Idiocracy (the most prophetic movie ever made)

Occasionally, I see this movie on as I'm flipping up and down the channels.

For those who've never seen it, please give it a try. It is probably going to end up being the most realistic depiction of our future, sad as that is. It is kind of a stupid comedy, but the social commentary is actually pretty biting when you step back and think about it.

A guy (and a hooker) get roped into this cryogenic project, and get forgotten, being thawed many, many years later, only to find that humanity is really, really dumb.

Agreed.

Was there a ruling class who benefited from a populace of dumbed down citizens?

I love that movie but I don't recall that aspect of the future being depicted.

I agree wholeheartedly! Almost everyday I see some form or another of the dumbing down of the masses and am reminded of this movie. Especially watching TV and seeing commercials which are an insult to my intelligence for the most part.

This film is one of the good ones. I won't say more, hate spoilers. Rent it, buy it, or act it out in your living room, but yes, see it.

A very funny, but hopefully not prophetic film.

I mean everybody is an idiot in the film and I'm sure the elites wouldn't allow this?

Ha, there are definitely some funny moments in 'Idiocracy' aswell as many ridiculous ones.
Its directed by Mike Judge who also wrote and directed Office Space - one of my favorite movies.

SO VERY TRUE! It's unfolding before our eyes.

Best part of the movie ... the family trees.

The really smart and well educated couple end up having no kids .. and the wife ends up alone.

The really stupid people, with no jobs and yukky teeth and loud bad manners, keep having oooodles of kids .. and inbreeding .. and cross breeding ...

VERY realistic. (At least, if Maury is any indication .... )

Great movie for a laugh, the president is clasic

No not that you see, but I always thought this is what happened to Uh-merica after the Rich and Educated people left...

You know, often times you can find great places to fit it into daily life.
But it has electrolytes!

Also anytime I feel really stupid (commonplace), I can watch a few clips of this movie to remind myself, it isn't quite that bad yet!

Even though I tell myself not to fall for anything, I can still fall for it without meaning to.
Like the other day that Kim Un pic with the pizzas. I called it out as fake, not realizing that it was a joke until 5minutes later...

So even going in thinking "This is all fake!" can backfire.

And then I realize, wow I am partially aware of how dumb I actually am.
What is scary is that the real world is a lot like Idocracy in that almost no one is even aware of their own ignorance.

Our medical system is even becoming like it, with a little picture-coded press button interface for illiterates haha.

That movie is one of my all time favorite comedies!!! Absolutely hilarious!!

I remember on watching it the first time, it was funny but also disturbing because you can SEE us headed in this direction right now. IMHO this movie is way more prophetic than any movie about the future ever made. I hope I am wrong.

Doctor: "This one goes in your ear, this one in your mouth, and this one in your butt." Joe places probes where instructed.
Doctor: "Wait a second." Takes probes from Joe, mixes them around in his hands, confused. "No, this one goes in your mouth, this one goes in your ear, and this one goes in your butt."

I love that movie, Mike Judge's best work.

But then theres: Minority Report, and Hardwired

I'd like to think that 2001 Space Odyssey was prophetic but sadly I doubt it.
