ISTANBUL — Emerging briefly from solitary confinement in his island prison near Istanbul, Kurdish militant leader Abdullah Ocalan said Turkey could become as troubled as Syria or Iraq if it does not take steps to end his group's decades-old insurgency.

A paunchy and graying Ocalan, cut off from the world since his capture in 1999, told a delegation of pro-Kurdish MPs visiting him at the weekend of his plans to end a 28-year conflict that has killed 40,000 people.

Axtualy the leader of the PKK has been negotiating a peace deal for some time from his cell.
The Turkish intelligence unit which has been negotiating with Ocalan reporting to the higher ups....
Ths seems to be the first bright spot for the Kurds desire for autonomy and democracy seem to show promise..
This will alter once more, the balance of power in the Mid east and perhaps strengthen Turkeys ability to project military power elsewhere..........
As Turkey is drafting a new constitution, Oclan hopes to see this enshrined within it.....
Release of some turkish prisoners is expected as a goodwill gestiure, and the talks are showing early promise if you trust the source.
The US too, must be pleased with the progress, as it will lead to improvement in Iraqs political situation as well....i hope.......
