I agree with all you said. Also Patriotism is passive whereas Nationalism is aggressive.
A lot of posts had aggression.

LOL That's right.. take out the pledge of allegiance completely so that our younger generation Americans have absolutely nothing to appreciate at all. Wow.

Anti-American propaganda is spreading like cancer subtly these days.. ANYTHING we have done in the past, that we have held dear, is wrong. Americans cannot be proud of their country.. we have to hold our heads really low. Unbelievable.

It is brainwashing and it looks like childish propaganda to most of the western world. It is the kind of backward thinking you would expect to find in North Korea or something. Patriotism is a method of state control. Pure and simple.

this is what is known as projecting
where was any of what you are talking about other than possibly removing the pledge of allegiance mentioned (or even implied) in the original post (or subsequent posts for that matter)?

I can’t believe there are this many pages on this. Seriously if someone thinks reciting the Pledge of Allegiance is brainwashing you need to stay away from all forms of media and especially this site because you are a highly gullible person that has no mental fortitude what so ever.

More than anything please for all that is good don’t watch videos by David Icke or Alex Jones you simply will not be able to differentiate fact from fiction. Just stay away from the TV, radio, news paper and computers or your house will be full of useless crap every time a commercial like sham wow comes on or someone sends you an Email saying you have inherited money from Kenya then wipes out your bank account. That is if you still have any money left because you will have just spent a ton on a car because you believed the add saying no money down with up to 10k off and zero percent financing.

There is a sucker born every minute but you would be in a very special class if you believe the OP.

most, if not all, mantras recited en masse, especially if obligatory, are a form of brainwashing.

The link is to a website explaining what the pledge is about.

The original Pledge of Allegiance was written by Francis Bellamy. It was first given wide publicity through the official program of the National Public Schools Celebration of Columbus Day, which was printed in The Youth's Companion of September 8, 1892, and at the same time sent out in leaflet form to schools throughout the country. School children first recited the Pledge of Allegiance this way:

Pledge of Allegiance

Another website explains about the word liege

Free; specifically, free from obligation to service except as within the relations of lord and vassal: as, a liege lord, a liege man (correlative terms implying protection on the one side and service on the other, as against all other claims).

The pledge is just that a pledge, just like a pledge to a bilbe, you decide if you want to do it or not if not its your choice, but personally to many So call Americans that are liberals need to go back to were they came from. Other contrys can burn our flag, a picture of our president and protests against our American hoildays but we American burn the Qurain (SP) or have a carton of mahamod (SP) we are the evil ones and they protest against us when we never complain on what they have been doing. maybe if you look up the words and there meanings you may understand better or better yet servere this country you may not be so easlie dismiss the pledge, LIBERALS SUCK

That's exactly along the line I was thinking. Patriotism vs nationalism. Well said. Oh, and I enjoyed your other post re travel. Agree.

IMO the POA should remind citizens that we vote our govt into power, the USA cannot be divided, and that there should be liberty and justice FOR ALL, and not just a nation of laws with no wisdom to apply them justly.

Students should be allowed not to recite it; and I would not expect citizens of another country to recite it.

It's sad how irrational people get when you refuse to say the pledge, or even tell the truth about it, as the posts against the OP in this thread have clearly demonstrated.

I agree 100%. Also, I find it ironic that the right wing supports the current pledge instead of the original one. Figured it would be the other way around considering how much they love talking about the way things used to be.

Americans need to stop lying to themselves. The pledge is creepy statist brainwashing. Practically forcing 5-14 year olds to chant some statist mantra everyday all while holding their heart is incredibly weird. It's something North Korea would do.

I stopped saying it in the 8 grade when I finally came to my senses and started thinking "why the hell am I pledging allegiance to a country who's actions I don't agree with? Plus I don't even believe in God". I felt like a social outcast when I didn't stand and say it with everyone else, but I didn't care. One teacher even yelled at me....again, did not care. A lot of kids would though... and say it even if they felt uncomfortable.

But this was of course before I could realize the big picture of it.

The Pledge is Brainwashing
The Pledge is Brainwashing
The Pledge is Brainwashing
The Pledge is Brainwashing

It's gotten more statist over the years as you can see. They had to make sure they put the country's name in there. Then sprinkle God in to secure the religious... Even though Jesus wouldn't want you pledging allegiance to a state....But that's a whole nother debate.

It's funny that the right wing (who seems to be the most brainwashed into "patriotism") love the pledge..but the guy who wrote it (Francis Bellamy) was an avid socialist.

I will agree that the Pledge of Allegiance is a form of brainwashing but no more than teaching your children to say Yes Sir and No Maam or Washing your hand after going to the bathroom but this is not the first time I heard and sensed your lack of regard for the American Way of Life which is founded upon and dependent upon the our Constitution, Bill of Rights and the fact that We Are A Republic,,not a G D Democracy as here again I am betting you think the USA is a Democracy. Our Constitution would not be worth the paper it is printed on if its citizens did not bind themselves to it and in turn, we would have no right to seek protection by and within it.

My Constitution and Bill of Rights declare where I stand and what I stand for; they are no less significant to True Americans than say the "10 Commandments" and I am betting at some point those who are the enemies of our "Constitutional Republic" are going to realize just how deadly serious us Real Americans are about this. If you disagree, you might as well go stand on the opposite side of the street.

I see you have not made any profile entries; where exactly are you bub...he USA or ? It is also interesting you using the word "Creepy".

Do me a favor, stop trying to agree with me; we do not agree where it really counts and it is good that this is Cyber Space because your posts warrants more than words.

I had previously addressed we have a bunch of Globalist Socialist Luciferian Minions here: www.abovetopsecret.com...

"Satanism is a broad term referring to a group of Western religions comprising diverse ideological and philosophical beliefs. Their shared features include symbolic association with, or admiration for the character of, Satan, or similar rebellious, promethean, and, in their view, liberating figures"

1 i dont think you understand the term statism, statanist, or the word satan itself.

2 it would be nice if you listed all the countries in the world that dont practice patriotism or love of mother/father country.

3 theres no point in saying i dont believe in so and so in this country and the policies with out pointing out better forms. ok find all the other countries that dont do it to prove how great they are without using these tactics.

i dont claim to be a world traveler but i have been to at least 15 countries, and i havent been in one that doesnt fly its colors or practice some form of patriotism in school, or teach "their" version of history.

while i dont agree with the under god part myself, i see nothing in this as satanic, unless of course you mean the country itself, and well at this point i dont know one country that isnt run by satanists lol, they are all scum bags.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

I pledge alliegence to the flag
of the United States of America,
and to the Republic for which it stands,
one nation, under God, indivisible
with liberty and justice for all.

Now, that was by memory, from more than 45 YEARS ago, when I had to hold my hand over my heart and recite the words. Was I brainwashed? I don't know. What I do know is that it gave me a certain flavor of patriotism to say them. I can remember being somewhat proud of my ability to recite them. (My parents had also coached me in the Preamble to the Constitution).

I don't see it as a bad thing, however I can also see how folks might see the recitation of the Plege of Allegience as a brainwashing, as an Aldous Huxley kind of thang. Maybe I'm just too old and wizened to see the danger of it. If I had kids, I'd want them to know the Pledge of Alligience and know how to sing the Star-Spangled Banner, and I don't mean the meandering, drawn-out version that we hear frequently at sporting events. I would want my kids to know what those words mean, as my parents patiently answered my questions.

For me, the bottom line is that children should be able to choose to embrace these nationalistic icons or not, however that's going to hinge upon their parents own politics, isn't it? I don't think it did me any harm.

Love your country. Look back fondly, but don't stare.

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.
