What a pack of animals.

"The Victorian coalition government has waited for the teachers union to return to negotiations for several months and discuss the government's generous offer to make the best teachers in Victoria, the best paid in the country," she said.

The government has offered bonus payments of 10 per cent of their annual wage for the highest-performing teachers. "The government is offering to pay classroom teachers up to $95,000." Read more: www.theage.com.au...

www.theage.com.au...

These 'teachers' have been holding the nation to ransom for far too long. They have such a strong union that can hurt our production/economy and they just strike every year. They are never happy. Has a year ever gone by that didnt see 'teachers' strike? Striking is how Teachers increase their pay.

Teachers in Australia are so out of touch its not funny. Teachers are treated better in Australia compared to the US, UK and much of Europe. Gillard just made a speech about improving education based on the Gonski recommendations. The VIC Teachers Union must know this is terrible timing.

The rest of the world is at war with Teachers Unions. Why do Australian Teachers think its not coming for them? You can see from the video that the media are going to attack them. The news story was all about the parents who will have their lives disrupted by this 'action'.

Isnt this 'wildcat'? Shouldnt they all be fired? Fire the lazy moochers just like Reagan would if they were Air Traffic Controllers.

Teachers Unions are the worst unions. Unions are dead and Teachers are largely responsible.

These work shy people should find a job they like or shut the hell up.

I respectfully disagree and will draw a comparison so our non Australian friends here can get the information that the MSM will not provide.

Teachers USED to be the highest regarded individuals in any society as they were directly responsible for shaping the countries' youth and in turn were charged and given great power to yield their intellectual prowess - individuals such as Socrates' are a testament to this.

Todays teachers are paid no where near what they should be - but if you pay peanuts in this industry you get monkeys - and we have monkeys graduating daily.

Let me give you a comparison so you may better understand where I am coming from.

Australian Secondary School Teachers salaries (updated 31/08/12) AU$40,292 - AU$79,811................

Calibre of education: University graduate.

Now, let me enlighten you about my industry.................

These "Maritime Unionists"' have been holding the nation to ransom for far too long. They have such a strong union that can hurt our production/economy

Thought I'd just clean that little quote up a bit for you there.

Seagoing Maritime Unionist average wage:$105,000 onwards..............source: Current MUA EBA signed off by Fair Work Australia that I am currently holding in my hand!

Calibre of education: Failed year 10.............but daddy is in the union so it does not matter.

What the teachers need to do is take a leaf out of the Maritime Unions handbook about strike action and introduce a bit of violence into the mix - that action tends to get results......

Picture of country being held to ransom in 1998:

Picture of average union member and associated mentality:

So, being a Captain in the Australian Merchant Navy and in no-way affiliated with the MUA (that union is for the minions of the industry) I wanted to give you this comparison.

I work with bloody idiots day-in, day-out who can't even tie their shoe laces together, only work 6 months of the year and earn in excess of $100,000.............all thanks to their union.

Does all that seem fair to you?

Hey dude. My Grandfather was a Boilermaker and he was up in the union.

When my Dad left school he did some work as an offsider at one of my Grandfathers jobs. The offsider was called a 'steal worker'. I asked Dad what a 'steal worker' did and he said "nothing at all".

Unions often expect too much and in the past they have gotten it.

I consider the whole concept of unions to be dated and flawed.

As far as Teachers go I am in favour of lifting standards. My step son did pretty crap in school but he did well enough to get into 'teaching'. They need to lift their game before we lift their pay again in my opinion.

The Gonski Report and Gillards speech seem to telegraph that a broom will go through and they will try to get rid off the poor lazy teachers that only 'teach' because they were too dumb to do something decent at uni.

My step son works on a drilling rig and makes twice as much money as a moron teacher. First year out of school. I say good. Teachers are ripping us off.

Teachers dont know what work is. They are always on holiday. They are always complaining. Im glad that public opinion is turning against them.

In regards to your philosophy about unions here - you and I are on the same page, however, unions in the pure sense are needed otherwise corporate greed and exploitation of decent workers would be rampant by now.......the scum running unions these days are testament to this: Joe McDonald ring a bell??

Now........hypothetically, if a secondary school student was aware that a teacher could earn in excess of $600,000 a year (Melbourne Marine Pilots) but the selection criteria was the same as medicine and law (4+ years Uni + sea time + orals examinations by AMSA + ongoing assessments - total 6 years until qualified) do you think we would have a better type of teacher today? After all, teachers are charged with shaping the intellect of the nation - I call the current climate the "dumbing down of the nation" both wages AND what they are required to teach - as dictated by the almightly and ever watchful government(s)

Pay peanuts - get monkeys. (except the MUA - but you still get monkeys)

I think we got monkeys. Wouldnt they prefer bannnas though? You would think you would get elephants.

But yeah, Im all for improving the quality of the Teaching.

I think we could reduce staff numbers and hold classes in Halls with the best Teachers on video link. We could employ security guards and tutors to run the classrooms.

That would save some cash.

Well,

I look at it like this.

Our politicians have received multiple pay increases per year. and they arent small increases. Did you know Gillard earns more than Obama?

[Ms Gillard's salary will rise more than $114,000, taking her pay from $366,366 to $481,000.
And Mr Abbott will get an extra $81,564, lifting his salary from $260,684 to $342,250.
These wage increases are more than 10 times the annual 3 per cent indexation handed to most average earners.

www.smh.com.au...

And this happens more than once a year...

Yet, TEACHERS need to strike for 2.5%..

Do you know what teachers earn at the moment?
www.payscale.com...

High School - $58K
Primary School - $52K
Secondary School - $57K
Middle School - $58K

the AVERAGE Australian income is $66K.
en.wikipedia.org...

So, i personally think its absolutely DISGUSTING that anyone anywhere would criticise our teachers for begging tooth and nail for a 2.5% increase...if its unions, or teachers i believe they deserve to strike 365 days a year to be given a fair go!

These people take care of our kids, they train and teach them and mould them into tomorrows leaders.

If I was Prime Minister

Teachers
Nurses
Police

would all get 10% increases across the board.

I think cutting at the top is a better solution.

How much money do we think we all generate?

Its a first world mentality.

The average wage is inflated because 'professionals' of the west are ripping off the world.

You westerners just think we should live like gods on the back of the third world.

The OECD nations are in for a shock.

NAM is coming. The BRICS are coming. The free ride is almost over thank god.

A mob of lazy teachers acting like a pack of animals is what disgusts me.

Professionals of the west?
.. you mean teachers?
Are you serious? you want to cull teachers because you think we are riding the back of the third world?

The reason they are the third world, is because they didnt invest in teachers and schools to begin with.

Granted, some nations as propserous because of their natural wealth, but dont kid yourself. If we dont invest in our children we will become a thirld world nation ourselves.

Second, were you the kid in class who always got introuble for his attitude? How old are you exactly?

'' a mob of lazy teachers acting like a pack of animals ''...... I dont think your really in touch with the reality if thats your position.

Nothing personal, I think you should just be a little more respectful, afterall you were taught and raised well enough to type on a computer.. they couldnt have been that bad!

No I dont mean 'teachers'.

I mean that giving the average salary as a reason teachers should be so greedy does not convince me.

Teachers in Australia are all losers and failures.

Those who can, do. Those who cant, teach. This is very true in Australia.

They need to lift their standards before they ask for more money.

Other nations are getting beter results from teachers who are paid far less.

Unacceptable, incorrect, subjective and quite frankly way out of line there mate. I graduated year 12 in 1988 and the teachers I had were polar opposite to your comments.

What leads you to be making such blanket statements like that?

Once again, in my industry if you are a lecturer at the Australian Maritime College you are the best of the best and it has nothing to do with "Those who cant, teach" - they are head-hunted for their skills AND paid accordingly.

Same goes for Teachers (and nurses and police) - pay more - get better results - plain and simple.

I'm with Agit8dChop on this one mate......

Well maybe not all of them.

When teaching is the easiest course to get into at uni its no wonder we get such poor results from our teachers.

I know some are good. That is no reason to pay them all more.

So those teachers have took it upon themselves to close 400 schools across the state, with that children are at home learning nothing for the day/week (what ever it is) because those teachers believe they deserve more pay for being good teachers?

I'd say calling a strike and sitting on your arse in Rod Laver arena is not doing your job properly regardless of pay.. I'm sure there are graduates waiting in line to take their jobs also who will not care about the pay rate.
