The US navy is working on a new AA missile that it intends to replaace both its AMRAAM and Sidewinder missiles

www.fas.org...

this is old, but I dont see that its cancelled. If deployed, the missile will be astonishing because no longer will a pilot have to determine when and where is the apropriate use for a missile. I hope that the Air force jumps on the bandwagon so it can be used on the Raptor.

This is actually an Navy/Air Force joint mandated project(s) roniii259. The Navy is 'lead' service for one reason: funding appropriations.
The reason your not finding much on this is because it is still in the budget/appropriations funding phase.

oops sorry, but why did you bold my name. i wonder if it will be stealthy or include a datalink like the AMRAAm, I dont see why not. I wonder if Raytheon is doing any work on this, I wish Intelgurl was here to enlighten us further about the missile.

I was wondering if the Dual range missile would replace the AMRAAm. It is a comparitavely new missile, but the Dual range missile looks like it will replace it. Is it possible that the new missile will use AMRAAm components?
