If you are or were a Christian and believed whole heartedly that the end is near, and that you have been ordered by God through Jesus..to go out and speak the truth and spread the word.

You would do so. if you had the love and compassion necessary to care that everyone is aware that time is short.

I can't understand everyone's constant beef with these people as they are nearly the only ones doing exactly what their bible say to do! Which would be no fun at all! there would be bad dogs and bad people to face. I have great respect for anyone who acts on their convictions so strongly.

They come to your door because they give a darn about whether you live through their last days or not. Why else would anyone do it!

Unlike the Mormans JW's do not own big business through the congregations, they only own printing facilities operated non profit. Most of the literature is given away free.

can't hurt to respect people can it.

You are either a Jehovahs Witness or you know very little about this group. I was raised a JW and spent half of my life indoctrinated into this cult. They do great damage to themselves and their family members. The group is not benign. True most are so blinded by the dictates of the Watchtower Bible and tract society, that they have no clue how much they hurt themselves and those whom they love and who love them, and it does seem courageous going door to door, but the picture you painted of them is not accurate. I respectfully suggest you do a search on these people in this forum and educate yourself. Sorry, if I seem harsh, thats not my intention. Peace.

NP we all have our opinions, I wholeheartedly believe I likely know more then you about them. I also know a lot about Catholics and many other religions. I totally respect people who actually read their own bible if they are going to try and sell their belief to someone else.

I asked a few questions of any Catholic I know, and they tell me they let their "Father' interpret the bible and NO they did not read it.

The bible does say to go to the people and bring them the word...such as Acts 20. I can't see what harm anyone does by offering something you can say no to. Again I ask why are Mormons left out of this discussion. They also admonish people to leave the unbelievers behind and they do collect wealth and own huge chains. They take your fee will to smoke and drink and many other non biblical demands.

I read the bible through the first time when I was 11. I read it through many times after and as many other ancient writings as I could find, searching for the roots of them all. JW's are one of the groups that follow closest to what I read there.

Their way of living in comparison to the general public is healthy, you may have issues from being raised in their group against your will but that does not make it harmful. You may have issues with certain people or your Family because of this group but that also does not make them harmful. You would have issues if you are gay, but they are not the only religion who rejects gay sex, not gay people. Compare to other religions, the largest reason I can see to single them out is because they are not as loose with their connection. They actually require something of the follower.

I completely stand by my statements. Being raised within this organization, as I was, and finding the courage to break all commandments as set forth by the WTBTS and actually research the history of this group from outside the filter system that they themselves have set up, gives a certain perspective that others would not have. So I do doubt you're assertion that you know more about this group than I or others who were raised in it would know.

You are correct, everyone is entitled to their opinion. But opinions based on an intimate understanding of the group from inside, and outside is paramount to have a full understanding of it. Are you a present member of this organization?

Again, many members and former members have posted information and personal experiences on this group in the past, people are free to search those threads out and form their own opinion.

To the original question, no I dont believe alphabet agencies of the fed have infiltrated the JWs

I like to let Jehovah's into my house and slowly redirect the conversation to something that I enjoy, like Star Wars or porn.

They almost never catch on.

Thats because they enjoy Star Wars and porn also !!!

I know MANY heathen Witnesses, some that would make you blush.

BTW, that was too funny......

One time they came to one of my old jobs looking for me. I could have been fired.

I know it was them because they left propaganda.

These people need to wake up and realize that what they are doing is HARASSMENT. They're not spreading the good word but they'll get spread over something if they don't stop it.

Most of the JWs that I personally knew were honest, good people. But just like any other religion there are always the bad apples. It's unfortunate that you were subjected to that kind of harassment, and I am not going to try to defend any of them or their actions just know that they aren't all like what you experienced.

I love the JW's, I love all, Ive been fighting this religious mid-life crisis for the past six months, stopped eating meat, stopped eating three meals per day, I eat berries, nuts,, drinking water and chamomile tea, sometimes with a little suger. You would think, that I would be calm without all of the chemicals in my body, but im not calm at all , I am intense and my mind races constantly.

The JW's pulled up to the house in a gold 2003ish Chevy Sub, I was working in my garden, tending the sunflowers, admiring the insects. They got out of the truck with their bibles in hand, I glanced up and noticed this, and thought Awesome! time to discuss scripture. So I ran in the house and grabbed an ESV(leather bound
)that I received from a friend five years ago, ran back out to the porch. I was glad to see them walk on the pavement rather than my precious fescue.
They met me at the porch steps, I sat on the steps and rolled some tobacco, I asked if they minded me partaking in a smoke, Charlie the elder JW said he did not mind, I smiled and mentioned that Jehovah loves the smell of smoke, Charlie said, yes Jehovah enjoys some smoke, but only certain smoke, and gave me a piercing stare that penetrated my pupils making its way to the core of my soul.
They asked if I believed in Jesus Christ, Charlie was very intense at this point placing his hand upon my shoulder and said I LOVE YOU, Do you understand me when I say" I LOVE YOU" so I said, Very truly(
) I love you sir, and I believe Jesus is the son of God

Charlie asked if I attend church, and asked if I would like to go to church with them. I said that i would love to attend with you but I have to escort my Grandmother(86yr) to her Methodist Church. Charlie agreed.

I asked them what the difference is in my ESV and their JWV, Charlie showed me that the Creator in his book was named Jehovah, and that my book was incorrect because the name of the creator was not correct. I thought wow! all this time Ive been worshiping the wrong creator, no wonder my prayers go unanswered.

Charlie was in his late 60s he was "showing the ropes" to a new Husband&Wife team of JW's It was very hot on the porch, sweet beads were forming on the young ladies forehead. Charlie mentioned that they should be going
and said that he enjoyed talking with me, and hopes to see me at their services.

That was the first time they stopped by my house. As soon as they left I started researching the names of our Creator.
They have been by four times since then, One day they came during one of my paranoid moments
I did not open my door that time.
Ive been using ATS for religious study/research for the past few months, this weekend an ATS-member noted that Acts 8:37 has been removed from almost half of our translations. I was really shocked to see the scripture jump from 36 to 38, completely removed 37.

Charlie came by to visit on Monday, He did not stay for long because of the HEAT I'm always outside in the yard, but, I mentioned that Acts 8:37 had been removed from his Bible, I asked him, WHY? Charlie did not know and seemed just as confused about this issue as myself.

He will be back next week with an answer, I hope. I'm not a JW, I admire them tremendously, and feel terrible for not opening my door to them a few weeks ago

Witnesses do not attend church. They attend meetings, and those meetings take place at Kingdom Halls. A Witness elder would never ask someone if they would like to attend church.

Maybe they used different verbiage, Charlie wanted me to attend service at 1pm, and When I say "Elder" I was describing him as the oldest JW, but I have no idea of his true rank within the JW oganization, I dont think its important. I dont like the term old, so I chose elder, that ok wit YOU?

It is not used in their translation because that verse is is not found in the earliest manuscripts available dating from the 3rd century. It is omitted in both the Papyrus Chester Beatty 1, Gr., third cent. C.E., & the Papyrus Chester Beatty 3, Gr., third cent. C.E.,

Acts 8:37 is not included in many Bible translations because it is not found in the oldest and best translations of Acts. There is no attempt to cover it up, as you can find it (with an explanation) in the footnotes of most Bibles.

www.catholic.com...

This verse, not to be found in some Greek codexes or in the better translations, was probably a gloss which later found its way into the text. In the Vulgate it is given in this way:
www.catholic.com...
By gloss they mean a marginal note that was added by a scribe that was later included as part of the divine text.

I'm sure if the elder comes back he will have this answer for you. I only know because I was asked about this once.

A "No Trespassing" sign is the best way to insure that they will not knock on your door. Some ignore "no Soliciting" signs because they don't legally apply to the preaching activity they are engaged in. They only come to your door because the feel that they have a moral obligation to follow the example of Christ and the Apostles to " go and make disciples" Matthew 28:19

OK so I hate to admit this but here it goes,

When I was in college I was always awakened early in the morning, usually on weekends, by Jehovahs Witnesses. This went on for about a semester and a half when I finally had enough. It was always the same two people coming to my door. I had told them many times that I wasn't interested but they continued to harass me. Well one Saturday I had enough, the same two people came to my door again at 8 AM on a Saturday. Now anyone who has been to college knows that early mornings are a no go after a long night of partying. On this Saturday I decided to fight fire with fire.

While making my way to answer the door I some how lost all my clothing and managed to turn the stereo as loud as it would go on some seriously satanic sounding music. I then proceeded to answer the door butt naked drinking a beer and smoking a left handed cig. Well needless to say they were surprised, I imagine they were even more surprised that actually wanted to speak with them about Jahovah. I did everything I could to get those two poor bastards in my house to talk about their God but for some strange reason they had no interest in trying to recruit me. Needless to say I never and I mean NEVER had another Johovah witness come to that house.

So if you are having troubles with Jahovah try my tactic. As dramatic as it was worked like a charm!!!!!

If a guy came to door naked, I would just assume he was a homosexual who desperately wanted attention. They probably still laugh their asses off when they recall this. How come it's never a hot chick who decides to come to the door naked?

That would be your repressed homosexuality thoughts creeping in. You notice I never mentioned the sex of the two Jahovah's Wintesses. I would imagine every naked man conjures up that idea in your head. You know their are professionals that can help with that. I myself am completely comfortable in my sexuality and seeing a naked male doesn't automatically invoke homosexual thoughts......

good luck with that thing you got going on.......

Were they male or female? I am pretty sure that if this happened that they were male.
No repressed homosexual thoughts on my part would be needed if another male intentional exposed his genitals to me in an inappropriate situation and invited me in to at least question the sexual preference of the naked guy. From then on you were probably referred to as the naked gay guy every time they worked on your street.

Either way, your plan seemed to be successful.
Just be careful about doing that. Some people have been arrested for indecent exposure even though they were on their own property and in their own homes. Just a word of caution from a fellow ATS'er

Heh
Elder actually is a formal "position" in congregation. They are very careful with their terminology, because many of their interpretations dont quite mesh with those of your average citizen, or average church goer, for that matter. Their "church" is a Kingdom Hall; they go to meetings, not mass, church, or services; etc. Its just different terminology for the same kinds of things that most religions have.

My in-laws (that whole side of the family, actually) are Witnesses. Good people, just not a big fan of their beliefs.

You sure they were Jehovas and not mormons?

I think I recall reading somewhere that if you shun the mormons, you get put on some "Do Not Save" list.

Maybe that was the phone call.

can i ask advice for those of you that have been in this (insidious) organisation?

my son got together with a girl that had been raised JW. she wasn't a practising JW. her and my son split up a year after having a child together. for that year, and the following 3.5 years i became friends with that girl and my granddaughter, them staying with me many times and my granddaughter and i developing a close bond.

then she told me that she was going to be attending meetings as per her mothers request but that she'd not been baptized yet. i've not seen my granddaughter since (was seeing her 5/6 times a year before that, for 3/4/5 days at a time). i suspect very much that it's a direct result of her attending meetings as prior to that we had a very good friendship.

i gather they're told to reject their family/friends, this certainly seems to be the case. does anybody know if there's anything i can do to regain visits with my granddaughter? any elders i can appeal to? anything?

i'd be very grateful for some advice even though i suspect that without any good reason i won't be seeing my granddaughter for a very long time.

Your son can't sort things out? Surely he sees his daughter?

Whatever the case, I hope it's sorted and you can reunite with your grand-daughter.

nope, when the little one was 1 year old, my son wasn't the most reliable of people (at age 19) so JWmother decided he wasn't desired in her life. a few years later he's grown up significantly, and wants to take responsibility for her, so he's currently trying to get access to his daughter through the courts as his daughters mother won't let him see her.
