Jellyfish-like 'Medusoid' created

Thought you guy's might find this of interest.

It resembles an other-worldly alien from a sci-fi movie and has a name to match. But real-life scientists created the multi-limbed "Medusoid" which swims with the help of pulsating rat heart cells.

The Medusoid, artificial by design, no brain as yet, but with the way things are going, one day who knows.

What intrigued me the most was just this morning I had read this thread....Above Top Secret

One of the points made by Cuervo in his thread above was this...

For example, there will be a breed of reptile that will have a bit of a gummy worm texture and behave as a chameleon. This "gummy lizard" will also be able to shock people with an electrical sting much like a jelly fish. These will reproduce by laying a cluster-structure egg sac. These eggs will look much like ball of slime with several embryos growing within it.

Ok so not exact, but felt I thought it was interesting he mentioned Jellyfish.

One of the points made in the Medusoid article was the potential for medical application, such as pascemakers, I wonder what other applications this could have ?

The parallels to the radiolarians (see recent thread here: www.abovetopsecret.com... ) is most intriguing.

Basically, a few cells embedded in silicone? Yep....that is how radiolarians were.

Yep, they are pretty

At least they are naturally occuring, unlike the Medusoids.

Well...my point is that the earliest forms of natural life on earth mimic, or rather we are mimicing them via, these medusoids.

Agreed, both have beauty, alarmingly I am having trouble deciding the one that has the edge, I feel I should say the natural, but then again the synthesised has been wonderfully done.



I wonder if the Medusoid could ever evolve?
