Place your bets... what will the U.S. do if they launch and it heads East towards and over Japan?

Pyongyang, North Korea (CNN) -- As the window opened for North Korea's latest rocket launch opened Thursday morning, the nation's neighbors were watching developments at the remote base nervously.

Japanese Patriot missile defense systems scanned the clear skies in Tokyo and an air base in Okinawa, underlining the regional tensions.

I don't see the US doing anything, directly. There are plenty of other resources in the region that are capable of handling any 'threat' this launch is deemed to pose.

As I mentioned in a previous thread .... you can damn near count on what will eventually be 'determined' an upper-stage 'failure'.

I'd truly be surprised if it played out otherwise, but I've been wrong before ... who knows!?

I wonder if China would do anything and what would they do and do they really give a damn?

Its going to be an eventful few hours, because it depends if Japan and the US act drastically or not, if so then we probably have world war 3 on our hands, or the US just gives sanctions to North Korea or finally, everything goes fine and no one really cares

dunno, ken.

china 'pets their dogs' just the same a we do, imo.

i don't see them Doing anything ... even if the missile, rocket, mission, etc is sabotaged, taken out or 'interrupted' mid-flight.

might raise a 'big stink', but nothing more in the end. (?)

Hello:

I can see the U.S. Navy popping a few holes in the rocket with a ship mounted rail gun right after the launch.

China wont do anything..........hopefully it finds a way to crash land in China.....preferably into a government building......that would be classic.....I dont see ANY chance that this will be a successful launch...North Korea is 0 for 3 so far in rocket launch attempts

I can guarantee that the United States has a "fail safe" longitude line at which they will destroy any incoming missile. I was a crew-chief on F-16's in the USAF. Trust me when I tell you that NORAD is watching this very close. What will the empty suit in the WH do? If that missile comes toward America and there is solid proof to that effect, then we will have no choice but to act. Otherwise, some strong armed political movement will happen at a very fast pace. If they shoot it into space, then I guess the empty suit will have to stick to his word and cut off the food to the NK. However, he has a track record of not doing what he says.....I think I covered all the bases here..... we will see soon enough. I am not holding my breath though. I will sleep very good tonight.

World War 3, really your going to go right there? Do people just not realize what it would take to have a conflict turned into a war which than gets turned into a world war?

It's fueled with liquid propellant so it might just pop on the launch pad like NASA's first test rockets.

only problem with the home front idea is that us defence systems are protected from emp and japan/south korea would nuke them long before any surrender anyway!

upper stage failure
caused by one of these ->

can add image lol just link to site with image

but yeah nobody can launch ICBMs now without USA or Russias permission depending on who launches...
this would fall into LWOC (launch without consent) category
also when it is sabotaged with a laser it will make north koreans look stupid indeed
more coals for the propaganda fires...
