Do you mean that we could kill it, if it came to life and became self aware, whether by infecting it with a virus or throwing an army of nanobots at it?
Regarding the possibility of computer insanity arising (as per the story another poster shared), they could always create a computer psychologist computer to treat his insane "brother" and keep him on the straight and narrow..
But just imagine a million qubit neural net, capable of contextual comparative analysis and the generation of meaningful and purposeful, creative novel forms? That in and of itself is insane and is incomprehensible.
I am convinced that these qubit machines represent the technological singularity, which will occur between 2020 and 2030.
Scary stuff!
But what kind of world will this generate, and will it be ethical, compassionate, and free, honoring the unique experience of the individual, and who will be running such machines if the first one to be purchased was bought by Lockheed Martin?! That's also scary.
And why didn't this thread garner more interest? That too bothers me, that everyone will eventually roll over and then stare fixated at their handheld God while listening to his every word like an obediant and willing desciple. Then again, maybe he'll be worth listening to, who knows, but that it will come upon us without warning, and without pause is rather disconcerting to say the least.
